Availability

The version is already available for download on the site for all platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux). If automatic updates are enabled, the update will install automatically on Windows and macOS.

Changes

This version has two additional settings based on user feedback:

Option to disable scanning of RAW files

RAW files can be very large, up to several hundred megabytes. Processing them during scanning takes a lot of time, especially if they are located on a network drive connected via Wifi. Therefore, there may be cases when it is more convenient not to index them, thereby significantly speeding up work with other types of files.

The setting is located in the archive location management dialog and allows you to enable or disable this function for each source individually.

Option to disable the display of the Title over images

Although the metadata for image files seems to be standardized (to some extent), the reality is that different programs and hardware can use it in very different ways. For example, the Pentax Option E10 camera for some reason writes “PENTAX Image” in the EXIF:ImageDescription field. What benefit to user they mean by this is not very clear, because they also write the name of the corporation and the camera model, as expected, in the EXIF:Make and EXIF:Model fields. As a result, the meaning of using this field for its intended purpose is lost if on each photo you see a strange inscription “PENTAX Image” instead of a useful comment.

In the future, we will collect information about such oddities and try to automatically filter such “very useful” comments, and not show them as a title. However, no one knows how many such cases exist out there. In order not to leave the user alone with these “meaningful” titles, we have added the function to disable the display of the photo title on top of the photo itself (it will still be visible in the information panel).

The setting is located in the application Preferences dialog.

However, we kindly ask all users to inform us of any misuse of this field by other programs and cameras so that we can take it into account in our program for the future.
