Where might that difference come from?

Very interesting! I also found it to find photos - but I’m not ready to have all duplicates removed yet.

A good way to be able to “make sure” that they are duplicate, is to “see” which photos it finds as duplicates.
OR
if we could get/make a list of which files are duplicates so you could verify it yourself.

That is exactly what “To album” button does on that screenshot.

As to why Duplicate finder does not see completely identical files as duplicates - this is definetely wrong place for that question 🙂

While we’re on the subject of duplicates, I’d like to share the following observation with you:

In a few cases, the duplicates are not directly next to each other in the duplicates album. However, this may only apply to photos in the ominous .Trashes folder, which we have already discussed in another thread.
There is no meta- information at all above or below the duplicates found. In particular, the path is not shown there. Although the path is visible in the right-hand sidebar, the sidebar is so narrow that longer paths are not fully visible unless you mouse over the path. (The problem that the width of the right sidebar is too small and cannot be changed also affects the left sidebar in the same way. Here, for example, in the person view, especially when you want to use the genealogical capabilities of tonfotos and enter full names, these are very often truncated.)
In some cases, Tonfotos offers the option to delete duplicate photos with a single click. In other cases, it does not do so, even though exact duplicates have been found. Why is this?
Last but not least, I really sorely miss the option to enter rules according to which Tonfotos marks the photos that are to be deleted. With hundreds or even thousands of photos to delete, this seems to me to be an absolute necessity.

Thank you for your answer. Correct me if I’m wrong but that does not address the problem that in the duplicates album there could be a little bit more support for the decision which files to delete or to keep. What I now have is large collection where a number of identical photos is displayed side by side without any information about them except if you mouse over the sidebar. IMHO you should display the file path under each photo at the very least. That for me is one ore even the decisive factor for keeping oder deleting in most cases.

A rule based selection or filter would be great, but just showing the path beneath each photo would do a lot already.
