I would also like to request for ability to add multiple tags at the same time to multiple photos. As much as I enjoy adding one tag at a time to multiple photos, it would make my life immensely more productive if I were able to select multiple tags and assign them in a single swoop to multiple photos.

Andrey - You already have tags in the database. If you do not understand how it could be implemented from the GUI perspective, you leave me speechless. You have implemented already multi select option on photos, (shift or right click on a range of photos) then, you already have “Add To” option which lists all the tags. From the GUI perspective you could add a “checkbox” next to the tag that would allow to check it. Also, the filter capability you already implemented on adding photos to faces would be a welcome addition to the tags. I mean this is nothing new that other applications already have implemented. You already made a great product. All we are asking for is make it a bit more functional from the user perspective.

Let me ask you, do you really add tags one by one tagging your own photos?

cdbm1967 Sorry If my willingness to keep open dialog shocks you As you probably noticed, Tonfotos UI is very simple yet powerfull. This is not a concindence, this is result of hard work and thoughful approach. Ofcourse there are multiple ways to do stuff, but most of them we will never consider since they are not up to our standards of simplicity.

If you are asking for some feature there is good chance that you already used it somewhere, and that design can be good source of inspiration. As I said, I don’t have any elegant ideas how to implement it, that is why I asked if you might have ideas.

By the way checkbox approach is quite obvoius one, but it is not going to work. I will not go into detials explaining all the usability issues with it, but there are many. As to separate dialog with search funtion - this idea is already on the table, but adding there mulitple selection option again can potentially make too complicated, so there is something to think about.

Anyway, sorry if my question caught you off guard. And thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Andrey - first, thanks Andrey for tonfotos. It’s really a great application, fast and simple to use. Upon looking at alternative apps in how they implemented it, I walked away unimpressed. They did not come close in simplicity of use nor speed to yours. I guess, I wanted tonfotos to become “one of those” which probably I would complain about later :-)

The mission of your app is really simple: organize the photos, nothing more and nothing less, and it is doing it great! So for my tagging needs, there are alternatives which are doing it exactly as I would hope: AnalogExif.

Andrey - just to expand on my last reply. Are you planning on including title and/or comments photo tags in the filter/search options? You included tags already so I am not sure amount of effort required to do so on your part. If you ask for the reason why, the answer could be “why put a time an effort in describing photos and their titles if you cannot search on them”. Again, I do not know the effort required to do so.

Currently tags are stored in the internal database, while captions and comments are not. They are only displayed when you open the photo directly, after reading from image metadata. That is why they are not searchable. However, recently we started to get multiple requests to make them searchable too, and it actually makes a lot of sense. That means we will inevitable add this function going forward. Howver, can’t make any promise about the dates so far.
