As to it estimated size, that very much depends on the file types in your collection. Typical JPEG captured the iPhone is 1-3Mb, while DNG from professional camera can be 100Mb+, while thumbnail size is roghly the same for both. However, database contains not only image thumbnails, it also contains face thumbnails. If all your photos are graduation pictures with 20+ faces on each, you can expect pretty sizeable database.
Anyway, my personal archive is slightly larger than one Tb, and the database size is 1,8Gb. So I think you can use this proportion as a rule of thumb.
