manually adding people to the photo

hi,

i am adding a lot of family archive photos to my collection. sometimes face detection algorithm does not find some faces, this is due to photo quality or because the face is partially hidden. i’ve tried to add faces manually using “add new face at this location” option but still get a “could not find a new person’s face in the specified location” message.
I would like to add a face manually in a specific location even if the algorithm can not find a face there.

Thanks for a fast reply. The function you’ve mentioned is a good start but it’s not exactly what I was talking about. In my case people do present on the photo and they are visible, at least partially.
What I propose is to allow user to add the face box manually at the arbitrary position in the picture. The rest of the functionality remains the same. The box can later be connected to a specific person like any other face in the picture.

zvainer I see your point, however, I have my doubts this is really needed since we already have function I mentioned. What would be the benefit of your aproach for users?

I would say that the main benefit would be a feature completness, meaning that in a rare situatuion a face detection algorithm misses a face the user is still be able to fix this manually.

I have a group picture with ~30 people on it. I can mark all of them on the photo except for two and it’s kind of annoying :( Of course, I can add the photo to their personal albums as you’ve suggested, but its not the same - when a face is properly marked, anyone pointing on it on the photo can immediately see the person’s name. In addition, selecting an avatar in the details pane highlights the person’s location on a photo. These are nice features that won’t work when using a ‘personal album’ functionality.

I agree that this is a kind of an edge case, since the face detection algorithm works surprisingly well. In my collection, only two out of ~150 photos has face detection issues. Still, i think this would be a nice addition that allows a user to control the situation instead of being dependent on algorithm performance.

zvainer Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Actually, this feature was already suggested several times in the past, but it was difficult to prioritize it so far. I guess sooner or later we will get back to it, since you are right, without it it feels not 100% complete.
