CapnG Yes, there is: https://tonfotos.com/docs/metadata/#date
When you edit data in Tonfotos, it is stored to proper metadata fields and then will be exported too, if you export with metadata, obviously. However, if this data is missing, it will be also missing when you export.
However, there is a catch. Events function in Tonfotos is smarter than that, even though it is not advertised that much. When EXIF dates are missing, Tonfotos will also analyse names of the folders file is stored in. If that names have obvious dates, it will use those dates when building Events. That is why the chronology you see in Events is better than it actually is in your metadata.
Anyway, the solution would be to identify those files with missing dates and fix those dates manually.
Anticipating your question “why you just don’t use dates from folder names instead during export”, well, that would be too bold. Program has no right to modify user data without direct command from a user that clearly understands consequences. Especially if those modifications are only based on guesses. And using date from a folder name is just a guess. It probably is good guess, but still is a guess.
