Updated, Now It Crashes

I downloaded the latest update, and now the program won’t open without immediately crashing. I’ve even redownloaded the installer directly from the website; same problem.

Check window “Event-viewer” -> Windows Logs -> Application
Does it say anything about Tonfotos ? (just curious why its crashing)

Hmm.. CUDA installed ? remove it and remove Tonfotos. Install Tonfotos and try again…

Version 1.14.5, though I had to look that up on the website; i can’t get to the Help menu, as the program freezes the second it opens.

As for the logs, there’s a few different error reports, but nothing useful:

JoshS Sorry you had to face this issue. Normally I would suggest using debug logging, but since program does not crash, just hangs, I don’t think that will be much of help. Couple users also reported similar issues, but I do not know what causing it yet.

As far as I understand, rolling back to previous version should help. However, this will not resolve core issue. It will only help you to wait till I find the reason and release update with fix. The problem is, I am clueless so far, as this problem is very rare and there is no known way to reproduce it.

If you are willing to help me to debug the issue, I would like to ask you to archive all the contents of AppData/roaming/tonfotos, upload it to some cloud and send me a link. This way I will be able to debug with your copy of the database, and if issue is releated to your configuraion or database state, I will be able to reproduce and then fix it.

Andrey So, I rolled back to the old version, and it worked for a bit, but now it still freezes right after opening every time.

1.) If you remove the software. Remove CUDA. And install only Tonfotos. It should start.
If not, check if there is windows updates missing, that its waiting for… strange things with network could happen if there is windows updates “in the wait”… Reboot also might help 😉.

Now with the problem, maybe its related to the database in-some-way…

I have seen application hang like this when I tried to remove the huge 200k with 1000folders.. library:

The program tonfotos.exe version 1.14.5.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

What I did
Instead of having one folder as library - I now select each folder that I want Tonfotos to grab.
This means the config.json will be updated with alot of info about each folder (and not only the one I have selected earlier).
The problems I experienced was that Tonfotos did remove the large library I had, then I could add all the other folders (by selecting multiple folders at once). Then it would start to scan all the folder..
BUT if I closed Tonfotos, and tried to restart it again, it would not start. No process in task manager either..
I have tested some several time, I just did backuped the \tonfotos folder and restored it, to test this again..
My guess that a hang could easily be database related.

I’m trying v1.14.2 now.
Without CUDA. (maybe my card/driver in combo with windows does not work perfect, so I removed CUDA)
I also have disabled “Recognize faces” on the one folder I have added to library!
Now the program is re-reading all the folder, all the photos again.

Can you please check what version you are running now? (Menu->Help->About) If you did not turn off autoupdate it might updated again.

Right click the Tonfotos icon, select uninstall. Then a new window pops-up and you will find Tonfotos in the list. The Version should be under the name.
