v1.14.3-v.1.24.6 had that problem for me aswell.
v.1.14.7 I have not seen this happening.

Stig 1.14.7 is installed. And worked very well for the last two weeks.

So there might be some corrupt file that is cause this??
A list of the files that it have problems with would be nice, so we could address them..

No that can’t be sice 1.14.7 was released only four days ago. Can you please try to rememeber again when exactly issue started so we can correlate it with versions?

Andrey Oh, I did not recognize the update! Anyway the failure appeared yesterday morning for the first time. There are about 120k of files to manage.
And it works well meanwhile again and even mor sucessful than before in recognising persons. Thanks for doing whatever you have done to fix it!

Sembello I am a bit confused actually. What is the current status of the issue? Does it hang or it does not? What are the symptoms? How regular is it and how long does it take to hang?

The face recon is taking up alot of resources and is what (I believe) makes the program go unresponsive etc.
Turning on and off this feature more easy would make the program much more flexible.

What i would like - is a marker on each folder that I can select - to “only find faces in this folder”.. and not everything all at once.

Stig Yes, that is interesting theory, but there is not enough data yet to support it unfortunately.

Hehe, joke aside 🙂 But really think that having the “advanced feature” of controlling which folder I want face recon on would be very useful. Atleast for me.
Programmable - it should be “easy” to, to just adopt the face recon to each folder. Add a face marker to the folder name and have it green/red or green/gray depending if you have face recon on that folder. I won’t ask/take credit for it, I just want a more functional software 😁.
..oh, this thread is getting out of hand..
Lets say you go on a trip with people you don’t know. You enjoy the trip/places etc, but you don’t want these people to be part of the face recon. So you simply disable this on that folder.
Same is with special occasion, you where a place with family and you really want all these faces to be remembers - so you activate face recon on this folder. Is it just me or do not people have this issue ? I would guess this would solve alot of problems for people that care about their albums and sort photos into folders. (cause having one large folder with 10-100k photos in is just madness)

I guess, I have the same issue with starting Tonfotos.
I have an external USB drive with approximately 80000 pictures files on it.
For half a year, the program worked fine with thousends of faces recognized.
Since today, the programm hangs in random folders, saying “checking for changes”.
2 weeks ago, everything worked fine.
For investigation, I did:

rename the folder “tonfotos” in %appdata% to get rid of the current DB and settings
install the latest version 1.14.7

After the start of the newest installation, the initiale dialog was shown, giving me the control for some settings like the search folders.
Unfortunately, the program hangs on the very first folder “%userfolder%\pictures” and doesn’t respond to nothing …
My question is:
do you have an idea, what happend or can you please give me an hint on how can I deeper investigate in the reason for this strange behaviour?

Interesting. And actually rings the bell somehow. Can you please check something for me? Can you please copy some of the images to your internal HDD, unplug your external drive and use 1.14.7 on that folder? Will it hang when drive is not plugged?

Some of the canges recently were related to the way application works with USB drives and phones. It coinides with the timing people started noticing this freeze. If threre is direct correlation, then it is great find actually.

True - CTRL+I does solve it, and I actually have been using this on EACH folder. But, this is to inconvenient..
I was doing this.. but doing this on 1443 folders.. ehh…
My suggestion is its better to disable by all folders (everything) at start and enable folder by folder. This would also help identify - if a folder is giving problems with lag/hanging or other misbehavior.

unfortunately, I even cannot do anything as the programs hangs from the beginning.
When it tries to read the internal HDD folder “pictures”, it hangs immediately.
I uploaded a screenshot to show it.

Gerhard If you delete people.tnfp from that folder, will it change anything? Popup will go away, but will it still hang?

Gerhard And external hard drive is unplugged, correct? That is sad. It would make sense if that would be connected to external drive, and that would narrow down the search area. But it looks like we are on square 1 without ideas what is causing it.

Can you please install version 1.14.3? Other users here reported that this would solve issue for them. Link is in this thread: https://community.tonfotos.com/d/953-tonfotos-hanging/14

Hi Andrey,
I installed the version 1.14.3 as you suggested.
When I start, it runs through the local files in “Pictures”.
Now, it works on the USB Drive and I have the feeling - as it is fluently scanning- it won’t hang.

Sorry, I need to correct myself.
After reading in hundrets of pictures, it hangs again on one file. This is not reproducable - when I restart the program, it doesn’t hang on the same picture but on another one, that was scanned before …
If I remove, rename or delete the picture, on which tonfotos is hanging, it doesn’tchange anything - tonfotos hangs randomly on another foto.

Gerhard I am afraid I did not get clear answer from you on my question, which is I think is very important one. Am I right that during all those experiments your external drive was still plugged in? Can you confirm or reject that when drive is disconnected there is no hang with both 1.14.3 and 1.14.7? That is very important information.

I did the following things:

with version 1.14.7, I removed all files and folders from %Appdata%\tonfotos, beside the json file.
In the file, I removed the path to my external USB Drive. The external drive was connected.
Result: tonfotos hang in the local path “pictures”.
After, I repeated the same settings again with disconnected USB Drive - same result.
with version 1.14.3, I removed all files and folders from %Appdata%\tonfotos.
During the first start of the App I got all standard questions as usual. I didn’t mention the path to my external Drive.
Result: tonfotos didn’t hang in the local path “pictures” and “desktop”.
After the first test, I added the path to my external Drive and started the app again.
Now it walked through more than the half of all my pictures on the external drive but suddenly, it stopped on one of my folders. Restarting the app didn’t help and the scan was stopped randomly on other pictures. Sometimes in folder, that had scanned successfully before.
I installed tonfotos on my other PC running Zorin18.
After the installation, I directly added the path to my external HDD and tonfotos started the scan successfully for the local folders and partially for the USB Drive.
It hang after one and an half hour at video file (mp4), that has a size of more than 40 MByte.
After switching of the video scan option and restarting the scans, tonfotos went through all my drives - internal and external - successfully!
The functionality “People and Face Recog”, I couldn’t test, as I was not sure what happens to my Windows Installation if I would enter my License Key to this Linux Installation …
