Speeding Up Tonfotos

Hello Andrey. I have read the other discussions regarding speed issues with Tonfotos but could not find anything that exactly matched my issue. Although I have over 200K images in my archives, the files are spread out among hundreds of folders organized by date and topic so none of the folders are too large. My problem might partially be blamed on a system that is nearly 10 years old. However, I would appreciate any advice on how to speed up Tonfotos during facial tagging. It can sometimes take up to a minute for the interface to go from unresponsive to active again. And this behavior is repeated after almost every attempt I make to interact with Tonfotos. Short of purchasing a new computer, are there any user settings I could change to improve the performance?
FYI - I am running Windows 10, an Intel i7 CPU with 32GB RAM and Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 GPU. Tonfotos is installed on an SSD. Most apps are still pretty snappy.

Donny How many cores does your CPU have? That can be the issue, at least four are recommended for comfortable usage. Faces suggestion calculation is very power hungry task, it will utilise 100% of one core, and you will need other cores to keep UI responsive.

I have seen an improvement when I turned off scanning on the folder and also make the Tonfotos process bypass antivirus scanning. (not recommended, but for a period of time it runs much smoother).

Not sure I understand that. Can you please clarify what exactly you switched off so it helped?

This is very interesting. What antivirus was that? Do you know what type of scanning it was doing during Tonfotos work so it completely hanged the applicaiton?

I switched of virus scanning for tonfotos.exe and also the NAS folder. The ordinary microsoft defender.
In the program you can make exceptions for not scanning NAS folder and also add “process” that should not be affected.
Mostly working with the program is smoother.
My NAS and Machine is on 1Gb network.

Anyway I tried turning on debug just to check whats happening.. sometimes the software freezes abit..(not software fault but network waiting I guess)

Like if there was possible to make “liste over pending changes” and have them written later.
Of course I need to get a faster NAS and going to see if I can setup link aggregation and if that helps.

Stig 8-34 seconds per one image update does not look good. As I understand, program is currently writing down faces into metadata, so it is quite natural that there are delays. There are good reasons this feature is off by default. But 20 seconds per image - that seems a lot. Probably your NAS is indeed very slow.

Tonfotos already is very asynchronous, lots of operations are queued, not exectued immediately. Almost all of them.

Will get a faster NAS then. Ugreen DX4800 plus seems like a good option.
