@Ludwig Are you backing up your phone’s storage to the storage space that Tonfotos is indexing? I backup my phone (android) and some of the folders on the cellphone have folder names that begin with a period (dot). I know those folders originate from the phone.

If the folders and files are coming from your iPhone, try emptying trash on your phone and see what happens. It also depends if you are using separate synchronization software or if it’s something iPhone and Mac Book do automatically, if you have 2-way synchronization then what is deleted from your phone is also deleted from your laptop. I don’t know how iOS works, but if it’s one-way synchronization, if you delete from the phone it is not deleted from the laptop. That is how I have my Windows and android phone setup, one-way synch, my laptop retains everything even if I empty my phone. But that’s Android. and Windows. Your setup is iOS and probably a MacBook?

The folder is there, otherwise Tonfotos would not show it, it is not ChatGPT, it does not hallucinate 🙂 So I guess the question is why you can’t see that in Finder? Good question, but I am afraid I don’t know. I guess some combination of googling and trial and error would help to reveal it. But there is little I can help with here wihout access to your mac.

However, if you only want to reveal it in finder just to delete it and its images, then why don’t you just delete them in using Tonfotos?

thanks a lot for your thoughts. I understand that Tonfotos would not show folders that do not exist, but I do not expect that from Finder either.
Another interesting observation is that all the images in “.trashes” appear to be corrupt, see screenshot:

The idea that this could be some sort of synchronisation problem between my iPhone and MacBook is probably not applicable. I do not have a sync task running between the two and only occasionally copy photos from phone to laptop.

Since I am not sure what .trashes contains I am not completely sure I want to delete ist, but it may very well end up that way.

Ludwig Even if Finder does not show you that folder, I think you still can open it using “Reveal in Finder” function (right click menu on the file)

Yes. I went to some places, and could open a number of other images without a problem. I could not check whether I can open every image on that disk, though.

In fact all images I checked in that ominous folder obviously exist somewhere else on the ssd. So my next step would be to get rid of that folder by deleting it -if I possibly can- unless you should have any further interest in it?

Ludwig Thank you for logs. There is indeed something strange going on. Probably this folder does on exist now, that is why there are errors accesing the files inside it and you can’t open it in Finder. However, it obviously existed at some point, that is why Tonfotos added it into the library.

The issue is, why Tonfotos cannot process the fact that is does not exist anymore. This looks like a bug.

Based on logs, there is something unusual happening. When program tries to access subfolders, it gets error code ENOENT - does not exist. However, when it tries to access /Volumes/Bilder NVME 4TB/.Trashes/501 - it gets error that it has no permissions to access it, and I guess this is what breaks the logic. If there would be ENOENT, probably it would disapper from the index already.

Still this all is not very clear for me. It would be great to see the output for the /Volumes/Bilder NVME 4TB/ folder, but I am afraid it is not in the logs. Can you please send me full logs from the moment app is started?

Stig You can either wait couple of days for the next version, or just use right now “Exclude folder …” function (right click on the folder in the left pane).
