Problem with HEIF format on MacOs

Hi everyone,

I recently noticed that Tonfotos no longer seems to like my photos in HEIC format. All the older photos work fine but starting in December 2024 most of the photos in HEIC format don’t have thumbnails and when I try to open them I get the message “Image is corrupted”. Some without thumbnail do open but lack their metadata. All of the photos can be opened without problem using the mac preview and the problem persists on local as well as external hard drives.
Interestingly, only photos taken with my iPhone 15 are affected, the photos taken with my girlfriends iPhone 14 work just fine (she also uses HEIC).
I read that HEIC can be problematic on windows computers but I couldn’t find any reports with problems on Mac.
Any ideas what’s the problem here and how to fix it (other than converting everything to jpg)?

Lenni Can you please send us some samples of problematic photos to support@tonfotos.com? What OS version do you have btw?

Hi Andrey, thanks for your quick answer.

I’m currently using Ventura 13.7.8. I send some files to the email you provided. I now noticed that they do behave differently after being copied from an external to a local drive. On the latter there is still no thumbnail shown and the metadata is missing but the photos can be opened without the “image is corrupted” message, although it sometimes does appear and sometimes it does not (even concerning the same photo).
