Add whole fotball team to "one face"...

Is there a way to put several different faces to “one face id”..
Like I want to put the whole fotball team into “one face detection”.
Or if I can put a whole family “from abroad” into one face detection.
Or is this not how its intended to be used..
Just looking for a way to easily group teams/people from work etc..

Stig No, I’m afraid this is not how it is inteded to be used. I guess this will make similar faces suggestion algorithm go crazy.

Yepp that sounds what i am experiencing.
So I need to remove those faces and just “forget the people that is in the fotball group”.

@Stig If the objective is to find the photos of the football group, you could either rename the photos to some keyword as filenames are searchable. Or if there are one or more players who only appear in your football group related photos, name that person(s) in facial recognition as a means to find the folder with your football group photos.

My goal was to sort fotos into ”groups”.
One way to change file name but feel like that is not a good option when you sort files with names.
Of course making album is a way. But would be nice if you could group people into one group.
Just an idea that is 🙂

You already can group people, in People section, with a right click on a person. Still those should be separate people first in order to be grupped. And grupping is only for simplifying navigation, it does not affect facial recognition.

I hadn’t thought of facial recognition of groups. Do you use other software that can do group facial recognition?

What is your filing system for photos? Mine is by month so folders by year-month. 2025-01, 2025-02….2025-12. If I have a lot of photos taken at the same time say for an event or a game, I’ll create a subfolder. 2025-10/football finals/ and I can find the photos by searching for the folder by “football” regardless of facial recognition. So it’s not facial recognition but I can find photos of a group if I remember the event.

@Tony I have sortet all older files into folders with “Year-Month - text”. This is for easy navigate in the folder structure.
And I also do like you, I sort under month and text, ex: 2025-10 - German Autobahn trip.
But I would like to be able to easily navigate in the tonfotos software and find all shots that one person.

@Andrey thanks for this. I have tried this. Right click the name on the left side and “add to group”.
I have so many faces to “put into a group” that its abit struggle. Should I name them Fotballface#1 , Fotballface#2 ?

I.e. the keeper/goaley would have different funny faces etc.. would be nice to have a “overview of them” in on “a person face recognition” and put this into a group FotballTeam A.

Hi Stig. If I understand, you’d like a view in TonFotos where all the photos that have a certain person are visible? Right now, in People view, we see head shots but need to open each photo to see the whole photo. It’s a bit of work to arrange, but would “Albums” would give you access to photos of the same subject or people you want? So as I understand it, the storage of your photos doesn’t change, the photos just get tagged to be viewed as an album.

There is no silver bullet, I am afraid. If you want information in your archive to be so granular, there is a lot of work to do, unfortunately. Groups can helps you make this mess more manageable, but still it is up to you to decide who you wnat to keep and how to cluster them into meaningful groups.

There is a button in the toolbar in People mode that switches between face/photo view.

That is true, albums are purely virtual. However, please keep in mind, albums information is only stored locally in the database. For longer term preservation I would recomment using Tags instead. Those are written into image metadata and will survive Tonfotos uninstallation, and will be visible in most of the similar software too.

@Andrey when trying out the group function and using fotballface#1 and fotballface#2 etc..
I right click a face, then “Enter persons name…” and then the list is very small. Just a suggestions if that could be expanded at a spesific size, that I deside suitable ? (but it should be static size, so It does not open small/large/wide depending on what you type into the text box)

click group name.. and in here i can see all the faces that are on the fotball team. Players, coaches etc..
I already have different folders for each match.
And I want to have a way to combine all the photos of the people into one group.

This can also be adopted to;
school classed
photos from “when I worked that company …”
scouting/choir/band etc.
etc..

Yes album is only works within the software.
It is the CTRL+T - and entering text on the photos that is vital for saving info into to the photo (exif info).

But how smart is the face detection? Can it handle 200 faces ? Or is it limited to around 20-30 ? Just asking because I would like to be able to get a face-with-increment-number when I add a face to specific group. If there is a new face, the add it to a new face-with-incremental-number.

I make a new suggestion about it.
