The randomness of the order of photos in folders drives me nuts! This was an easy option to sort in Picasa. For those of us that have spent time numbering and pre-sorting our photos in some order, please let us see them in that order! I get that the Event tab is somewhat setup for this but it’s way too small and you can’t scroll through it using the keyboard (-mouse wheel- yes but finger cramps!)
Otherwise good job and it’s my only real complaint.

hitme21 That is true that tere is no option to chose sorting type, but files are actually sorted by date in folders. What makes you thing they are not? Can you please show some examples?

I realize the “date in the folders” files are sorted by is by the last date the file was saved or the modified date. If you edit any photos and resave them this changes the order. When I look at them in folders they can be somewhat randomized. I sort my photos by “date taken” then use that to create a filename so they are in chronological order.

Regarding Events Tab and scrolling, I figured out I didn’t click on a photo first to highlight it. Then when I used the keyboard arrows to scroll -the screen went black. Going forward I will click and highlight a photo first.

    Thanks.

If you edit oustide of Tonfotos while Tonfotos is open, and this folder is displayed, then yes, changed files will be added to the end for better user experience. However, when you navigate out and then return, files will be sorted by date again, but not by last modified date. It will be sorted by creation date, if exists obviously. Not every file has creation date in metadata.

A strong vote from me to request sorting by file name as an option in the events view. One great usage case where it would be quite useful is when displaying unassigned faces. This page should definitely allow you to sort by filename, not just date.

The issue of sorting by date can spread out the same person over a great many dates, which makes assigning faces take much longer than it should. And I find it requires approx 20-30 assigned faces before Tonfotos facial recognition really starts to become accurate. Think about usage cases where the filenames have been renamed with the person’s name, and sorting by name ends up being a huge timesaver.

Or maybe another way of requesting this is, please allow the unassigned faces function to display in the folder view, not the events view, with the option to sort by filename.

Interesting, however I have doubts many people actually face this situation. However let us hear what others have to say on this.

+1, sort by filename. Having the option to sort by file name is also a top request for me. This makes it easy to create slideshows in any order you want. And that’s how I’ve organized all my files…

If sorting by filename or date is implemented, I would suggest also the option for sorting in descending order. Often I want the most recent photos first, oldest last. So a sort option with choices of by filename, date taken, date modified, (what else?) and the choice to sort in ascending order or descending order.

I vote sort by filename and create by date! My events timeline is useless because I have too many files that have and incorrect create date which I am manually painstakingly changing by hand one photo at a time. Would be very useful to see batched photos to correct multiple without the headers you see in events.
