Transferring Tonfotos to another PC

Hello, I am currently using the app on a W10 PC and know at some point this year will need to move onto W11, so can someone direct me to the link where it shows how I can transfer the configuration and analysis of my photos to another PC without have to re-scan all photos again. Thanks

DeepakP Unforunately, every time you install Tonfotos on fresh system, rescan is necessary. Internal database is not meant to be portable. However, the data will not get lost. All your metadata edits are already embedded into files, and face associations are stored into ini files, family ties are stored into dossier files, please read more about it here: https://community.tonfotos.com/d/186-version-150-people-data-synchronization All this information will get automatically restored during scan.

The only thing that might get lost are albums, but if that is the nature of albums in Tonfotos. If you want more permanent albums, use Tags instead.

Has taken me a while but now ready to transfer to a W11 PC. Is there an “idiot’s” guide to transferring the licence and steps required?

DeepakP It is not that difficult so there is no document like that yet. There are two thing to consider:

1) Transfer all your data. Tonfotos automatically saves all the faces data into ini files, so when you move your archive make sure you move those files too. Also, there is separate set of informatin about people that is stored in dossier file, make sure you save this BEFORE deleting Tonfotos, more about it here: https://tonfotos.com/docs/library/setup/#data-files

2) Transfer the license. This is very simple. When you uninstall the application, the activation gets freed, so you will be able to activate later on the new installation.

Just to be clear when you say “archive” you mean where photos are stored, so if they are in a NAS drive then nothing needs to be moved, other than .INI files?

Also, being very “dumb” here but have searched for teh .ini files in the same location as the photos as per “ individuals in .tonfotos.ini files, which are located in the same folders as the photos” but cant seem to find the files. How can I get the specific location for the files?

Then nothing needs to be moved, period. ini files shuld stay right next to corresponding photos.

ini files are stored right next to photos, in the same folders. However, they will not be created if face recognition is disabled.

ok thanks. So when I reinstall the s/w on teh new device I will need to rescan the same folders but will I need to add the names manually as well?

DeepakP No, names will be picked up automatically from ini files. Also, I recomend you to store dossier file too, so any additional information about people would also be preserves (dates of birth, relationships, etc.)
