Hello all…
I should have probably installed my Tonfotos to my laptop rather than desktop and i should have copied my NAS photos to the laptop as this way i can bring my laptop around to show family.

So what is my best options here? Any suggestions, I really cant afford to purchase another copy.

Thanks and have a great day!

Maybe if you can replicate on your laptop how you store your files on your desktop so that the file and folder pathnames are identical, then you might be able to move the face recognition, titles and comments to your laptop.

Tony Moving internal database is not oficially supported. Computers are never identical, countless things can go wrong. Even if it will not fail drastically there still could be some glitches that would not just go away. So when you transfer an application it is always recommended to start new indexing from the scratch.

That really depends. I personally store family photo archive on NAS and all other computers are accessing it over the network. This is very convenient for us, we all can work together on the same archive, import there new photos from smartphones, etc.

As to another copy, you can always install free verison. It will have limited number of people, but everything else will just work.

Hey Andrey, thanks for your reply. I do use a NAS already where all my photos are stored. But if i go to my sisters I cant bring Tonfotos with me since the photos remain on the nas.

I guess if really needed i could always bring my laptop nas and a small switch to my sisters house for the day to view photos for preparation for birthdays or collection of album, etc…

Thanks and have a nice day.

        7 days later

        So I was thinking…
        My plan is to attempt;

Synchronize my photos from my NAS, \NAS\Photo\ to my laptop “d:\Photo”, and keeping this synchronized by utilizing a “Sync Program”, so whenever I add photos to my NAS they get synced to the laptop, in essence keeping 2 copies of my photos, one copy on my NAS and one copy “Off Site” per say. Beside the copy on One Drive.

On my laptop the Users directory hierarchy is a bit different, on my laptop its c:\Users\blood\AppData\Roaming\tonfotos

        On my desktop it’s, “c:\Users\Rob MyLastName\AppData\Roaming\tonfotos”

So on my laptop I created a “Hard Link” utilizing Microsoft’s mklink built in program from
        “c:\Users\blood\AppData\Roaming\tonfotos” to “c:\Users\Rob MyLastName\”

Now when cd’ing into "c:\Users\Rob MyLastName on my laptop brings me to the same place as on my desktop.

Install Tonfotos(free) on the laptop and once installed copy over “c:\Users\Rob MyLastName\AppData\Roaming\tonfotos” directory on my desktop to my laptop.

I have not tried it yet, as I am still syncing the photos, ETA 14 hours. :0)
        Ideas suggestions?

        Thanks..

Rob Well, what can I say. It looks like you know what you are doing, so I will not ask you to stop. However, as I said, there could be some unpredictiable things along the way, but it also might just happen to work OK. So, only time will tell.

As to sync part. Tonfotos is hardwired to file modification dates. If some one will mess with those, Tonfotos might end up constantly crunching files over and over again. I can’t predict how your sync tool will work with modification dates, so it is hard to say if it will work well or not. If it will sync everything, including every file attribute, it might work though.
