I loaded the free version of TonFotos to test it out and have ended up with a massive issue. All my photos are on an 8TB external drive, in a very structured format. The drive, and all the photos, are part of my OneDrive repository. This is on a Windows 11 machine. So C: is my HDD and D: is my 8TB external drive.

I started TonFotos and asked it to index D:\OneDrive\Tera\Pictures and it started with a sub-directory D:\OneDrive\Tera\Pictures\Sport. What I observe is that each file gets duplicated, the new file (based on file date/time) keeps the original name and the old file gets renamed filename-machinename (see below).

If I delete all the -ASUS-ROG. files, I’ll be left with files which do not have the original file date/time stamp.
Is this a OneDrive issue, a TonFotos issue, or a compatibility between the two?

Please help!
Thanks

I forgot to add, the total of all the new files exceeds my OneDrive storage limits!

ColinGoldstein This does not seem like Tonfotos issue. Unless you ask it to, it will not do any changes to your files, copy, rename, etc. It only reads it. And would also write some ini files next to them once you start assigning faces to people, that is all. Most likely this is OneDrive.

I turned off OneDrive sync’ing while I indexed my library and the files did not duplicate. It would be useful if you could get a free OneDrive account to see why it’s not possible to index my library while sync is on. Perhaps it has to do with file locking or the way you open the file attributes…

So far I’m impressed with the app capabilities. Thanks

ColinGoldstein We actually test with OneDrive, and many users also are using it. I don’t think we encountered anything like that before. So it could combination of the factors - some special settings, internet speed and so on …

Andrey I think I found the issue. The files only “duplicate” if the folder being indexed is shared from another OneDrive account. So, my main account is email_address1 and my second account is email_address2. Email_address2 shares a folder with email_address1 (a standard OneDrive feature), and then Tonfoto, running in the context of email_address1, tries to index the shared folder. Hopefully, you can test that. I can confirm that indexing OneDrive folders in the current user’s account works fine.

ColinGoldstein Thank you for sharing your findings. I am sure other users will find this information useful.

As to testing, I am not sure about the purpose of that. We can’t do anything about OneDrive bugs. I guess it is better to address those to Microsoft support. At least they may point you into some direction on how to work arround this issue.
