iPhone to hard drive, creating Date Taken folders and converting HEIC?

I need to move thousands of photos from my iPhone 13 Pro to an external hard drive on a Windows 11 PC. I need folders to be automatically created based on the Date Taken in the EXIF data in the photos. And I need HEIC format photos to be converted to JPG. Can Tonfotos do this?

brooksrimes Tonfotos has function for import from smartphone, but only in Windows version. During import it will put files into YEAR/DATE structure. Dates will be calcualted based on EXIF data. However, it will not convert HEIC to JPEG automatically, Tonfotos can perfectly work with HEIC just like with JPEG, if you have all necessary drivers installed on your Windows.

However, there is also separate Export funciton that can batch convert files to JPEG/Webp/PNG.

Thanks for the reply Andrey. I only have a Windows PC. To confirm, if my iPhone has a folder named 202212__ with 96 photos from 12 different dates in December 2022, Tonfotos will create 12 folders on my PC, named:
C:\Users\Brooks\Pictures\2022\120122022\
C:\Users\Brooks\Pictures\2022\120122022\
…
C:\Users\Brooks\Pictures\2022\12312022\
and move the photos there with one drag and drop, is that correct?
And there is a feature to convert the 96 HEIC photos to JPG with one command?
(Tonfotos may be able to use HEIC photos but I have other Windows program that don’t work with HEIC)

brooksrimes Tonfotos completely ignores iPhone folders, it will creaty folders like 2022/2022-10-30 for you based on the photo dates.

As I said, there is Export feature that can convert many files at once. All this functionality is available in free version of Tonfotos, so why don’t you just try it out.

Once you install proper drivers for Windows from Microsoft, most of build-in software will actually support HEIC too, please read more here: https://tonfotos.com/articles/heic/

Ok, I installed the free version to test it. It sees my iPhone and lets me exclude files older than a certain date, but then just starts importing files without letting me enter a date range. Is this how it works, it just starts importing everything other than ones before a certain date?

brooksrimes Yep, that is how it is supposed to work. The idea is that you don’t need to download old photos multiple times, usually you just want to download most recent ones. This way you can define how fresh you want it.

Thanks for the reply. That doesn’t work for me. I like the products that let you have control by selecting the photos you wish to transfer.

brooksrimes Sure, I understand. Tonfotos strategy always been “it just works/no settings necessay”, and we are going to keep it that way. Actually we are constantly getting a lot of praise from users for keeping our app simple. But obvously, there are people like you who prefer complete control and deep customisation. I am sure that are applicaitons out there that suit you better.
