hello - thanks for this excellent software. We’re a theater that has hundreds of shows/ actors and working on our archive. I would like for each show’s director to ID all the people in their cast so that we can tag them in Tonfotos, but I can’t possibly afford the many hundreds of accounts we’d need. Is there some way that they could ID the people outside of Tonfotos and import the ID tags? Or can I get 10 accounts and continually assign them to new people once each director has finished tagging their cast?

jce_chi Hello, that is very interesting use case! Shuffling accounts arround is not allowed by EULA, but let us leave aside this for a moment, since I am not sure this is actually necessay. Can you please share how your ideal workflow look like? Do you plan do send out copies of Tonfotos to directors and then collect marked up photo arcives from them? Or is there a central photo archive in your local network with few workplaces where poeple can sit and do markup? Or is it something else?

Ideally, I could put a folder in a Google Drive and within that folder, share the individual show folders with the directors, and they could tag the photos of their shows. As a side note - is it possible to do facial recognition in videos of the shows, also?

jce_chi I see, thank you. So all the work would be done remotely. Is threre a timeframe in which that should be done, some sort of shedule?

No, faces on videos are not recognized, sorry.

Well..we’re (slowly) getting ready for our 40th anniversary in October of 2027. So I do have some time. If you meant time-of-day, I would think between the hours of 10am - midnight CST

jce_chi Oh, you still have some time, that helps. If I had to organize something of that scale, I would probably chose to organize few workplaces right in the theater, set everything up there and then would ask directors to drop by when they have time and spend hour or two marking up their cast, probably having someone nearby to give them basic guidance. I would guess this would be easier than trying to explain everyone how to download the app, set up scanning of google drive archive, wait for it to finish, explain how markup works, and remotely troubleshoot all the issues. And don’t forget, collecting markup results back could also be a challenge. But that is just my guess.

By the way, once faces markup is done, are you planning to do something with this information. like export it somewhere? Or make some sort of collage? I’m just curious.

Andrey It won’t really work to have a workstation at the theater: most of the people who were in shows more than just a few years ago have moved on to either NY or LA. I was hoping there might be a way to use google’s description feature - like if I have them tag the names on the photos in the google drive, I could then import those names…is that a possibility?
Part of the archive is so that we can easily look people up and find pictures of shows that they were in - sometimes for creating photo collages, but more likely for press requests. (Some of the people we work with go on to become well-known, and we often get requests for pix of them from their ‘early days’. I know many of the people from our first 30 years and can tag them, but as we’ve grown, I don’t know everyone any more.

jce_chi Ah, I understand now your initial idea. I’m afraid, it is not in the best interest of Google to make it easy taking any data out of their cloud. Just few days ago we published an article with results of research on this topic: https://tonfotos.com/articles/google-takeout/ The conclusion is - you can easily get back your photos, but as to any markup you made in Google Photos, it is all a bit complicated. Some of markup like GPS and Captions you can fix with the help of some tools, but as to people faces - it just don’t share full data. You can get names, but you won’t get face location on the photo. So it is impossible to figure out who is who when there are many faces on the photo. This make it quite difficult to migrate to any other photo management solution like Tonfotos.

Thanks for sharing background information about your usage scenario!
