Migrating to new computer

Initially I had it installes on Ubuntu, but due to constant crashes and freezing I decided to transfer it to a Windows pc, hopeful that there are less problems. My collection has ten thousands of pictures and hundreds of faces, all tagged and recognized. I was really impressed! And since all essential info is stored in tonfotos.ini files I thought that a transfer would be relatively painless…
BUT after the initial scan (which lasted for 14 hours!!) half of the persons are missing!! How can that be?? Whats the point of face recognition when half of the laborious work just vanishes upon some hardware change?
What happened there?

correction: it’s actually most of the faces….

mc64 Sorry to hear that, and it does not seem normal. Faces data storing into ini files - is one of the core functions that was implemented from very early versions of the Tonfotos. It has been battle tested and works for pretty much all the users, that is why it is surprising to hear about your issue.

Do you still have your Linux copy? Can you please do some research to see what and where went wrong? Can you please take one of the missing people, and then check the folders where those photos are to see if there is information about this person in ini file or not? Can you please find the same image (using search by file name) and check if it is actually indexed?

on Linux the app is in free mode. I’ll try to find some examples

I don’t really know what happened, but you are not losing anything. Just activate version again. If you will have any difficulties with that - write me to support@tonfotos.com with mentioning your serial number, I will fix it.

After that issue will be sorted out, I hope we can get back to the initial issue with transferring people information to your Windows copy and finally find out what has happened there. The key here is to check if data is indeed stored properly to ini files, and if is, if it is read correctly.

As I said already, I am pretty confident in transfer mechanism as it was battle tested a lot. But anyway, let us check it step by step.

the first is Ubuntu with 7 correct faces and one question.
The second is on Windows, same person, hundreds of completely deifferent pictures (often not even persons) and 2 of the seven already defined ones. the other 5 don’t show up.
I have waited till the initial scanning was completed.
