While learning Tonfotos I worked in a subfolder of the “My Pictures” folder. This was my initial sandbox for learning how to use the program. Once I became more comfortable with Tonfotos, I added the entire My Pictures folder to Tonfotos, and then proceeded to do face recognition for the people in my entire archive under My Pictures.
Later when reading Tonfoto’s documentation I learned the people.tnfp file should located one level up (at the root of the archive) rather than where it is actually located in the subfolder where I first did face recognition.
Does the fact that the people.tnfp file is in the “wrong” folder interfere with any of the program’s functionality? I suspect it must, otherwise the documentation would not say it should be in the root folder of the archive.
Assuming people.tnfp should be moved, how do I do that without having to redo all the face recognition (which is a lot of work)? Is there some sort of refresh operation I can do after moving the people.tnfp file?
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I could find anything that addressed it.
Moving the people.tnfp file
Don Thank you, this is good question that gives me opportunity to explain how this works.
- When there is
.tnfp
file somewhere deeper inside your folder structure, it does not affect anything, it is just ignored completely .tnfp
file is basically a backup of extended information about people (birth dates, family relations, etc.), it does not contain any information about face associations with people. Face association data is stored in each folder next to the particular image in.tonfotos.ini
files.- With that said, if you did not delete Tonfotos, your main database still contains all the necessary infromation, so you can turn on dossier sync to any of your folders and people.tnfp will be created again. You can delete it, but it will be created again next time folder is scanned. So you can simple delete old file and turn on the dosseir sync with your new folder.
- Technically you can move
tnfp
file manually, but you still will need to enable dossier sync function at your new location for it to take effect. However, once you do that, this file will be created automatically anyway, so there is no need to move anything actually. Unless all your data is already lost and you need to restore it from that file.
