A few questions about Tonfotos

First of all, I would like to thank you for creating such a wonderful tool.

I have recently discovered Tonfotos and I see a lot of potential,
because it is designed to be very close to the best management software picasa.
Out of more than 30 management software I have experienced, Tonfotos is very good!
I have a lot of questions and requests for features, but I have three questions first.

1) Tonfotos is very low memory consumption. Is this the case regardless of the number of files or folders imported? (this is a very good thing!

2) Is there a feature yet to be implemented to not only display results of file names related to the search in the file search, but also to list thumbnails of related files?

3) Is this going to be basically a photo/video management software? Or are you considering to become a multi-file management software like Adobe Bridge, Eagle etc??

“Low” is relative term, obvously 🙂 We had complaints in the past about distibution file size… Memory cosumption depends on many things, but number of images processed does not influence that much, as most of the data is stored in the database, not in memory. However, the more faces there is in your library the more memory is needed for clusterzation algorithm to work, as it has to keep all faces data in memory. However, there is plenty of room to grow. In order to hit threshold of 2Gb per faces data cache you will need to index arough of 5Tb of images, each one containing dozens of faces. Most users don’t even get close to that amount of faces in their library.

Currently we don’t have this in our roadmap. You are free to suggest an improvement as a separate thread. We’ll see how many people will supprt this idea.

I am personally not that familiar with Bridge, so it is hard to comment on this one. Also, one should never say never, but currently we are focused on providing the best experience for regular users (not so much photo professionals) while working with thier typical family photo archive.

Thanks for answering so quickly!

About memory> It was indeed relative to ‘low’. Most file management software eats 2GB, 3GB of memory in proportion to the amount of images displayed.
Tonfotos did not even consume 1GB (in my environment.
I wanted to ask you about this because I was surprised in a good way.

I will send you later about file search and other related requests.

The third question was to define the idea of what Tonfotos needs.
I think a tool that is a combination of Everything, Eagle, and Picasa would be the perfect management software.
Of course, this is not what Tonfotos is aiming for right now, nor will it be anytime soon.
So I will try to provide the necessary ideas for a photo/video management software first.
