  • thinking that I want my money back

I bought this program for the express idea of finding my people in all my photos. I used to use Picasa back in the day, you loaded it up, pointed it at your folders and let it do its magic. it would group all the peoples faces and as you approved them you got more and more added to each folder.

i bought this program a few days ago because my wife’s father just died and I NEED to find all his pictures on my computer. I have one folder that has a little over 700 photos of him in it, I want to get rid of duplicates and obviously when the program ggets going I’ll set it loose on the rest of my folders to see what else it can find.

Right now it can’t find a single photo of my father in law, even when i click right between his eyes on dozens of photos, i keep getting the error mesage saying it doesn’t see a person there. My pix are high res, they aren’t garbage.
i deleted my cuda since i found that mesage in the posts.

but it’s DOA!!!

I’m never this harsh, but i have a memorial on saturday that needs a life video of all his photos and this has so far been a complete waste of money and time. Ihave toi assume it works for some people or i’d be seeing tons of complaints, but i didn’t see that.

i have a degenerative nerve disease ands my hands and fingers don’t work very well so all this extra work and stress is killing me.

my computer is a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor 4.20 GHz with 32 gigs of ram, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti video card.
I have multiple ssd drives along with an 8TB platter drive. I have tons of free space, lots of ram, so i have no idea why this program isn’t working at all for me.

please help a very frustrated and stressed husband here!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Quozlator I am very sorry about your loss, and I understand your frustration.

      You are totally right, program is being downloaded by more that 10 000 people every month and majority of users are very satisfied, and even thankful for the program. However, there can be no program totally without issues, at least no program with enough of complicated functionality such as AI. Obviously, you are facing some issue, however it does not seem to be know issue and it is really hard to understand what exactly might be wrong in your case based on your description.

      I am not sure by your description if the problem with adding face applies to all faces, or just to some of them. It is totally normal if in some cases it will not find face, as there is no recognition with 100% accuracy. However, based on your description, I can assume that this is majority of cases, not just minor portion. This is typically not the case, but I can’t say anything definitive until we will be able to test this on your images in our lab.

      In any case, we don’t want your money if you are not satisfied. You can apply for refund and we will approve it.

        i have about 15 faces that thge program has found, with my own being the biggest amount by far finding about 20 or so. but i kn ow that there are well over 1000 at the very least.

        but its super strange that i have a single folder with over 750 photos added where it can’t find a single face.

        should i unistall reinstall? what should i try? i looked and as i said i removed the cuda, do i have to completely ininstall to clear that out?
        while i appreciate the offer of aa refund, i’d love for the program to work and you keep my money, but i need some guidance for that to be a reality

            Quozlator Sure, let’s then try to figure out what is going wrong here.

            First, I don’t think that reinstalling will help, you will just waste your time. Uninstalling CUDA is also an outdated advice, from the times when only first beta of CUDA support was released, it has improved a lot since then.

            So let me try to summarise what I understood so far, please correct me if I am wrong.

            • You have version 1.8.0 installed, no CUDA plugin is installed currently. When you open “About” dialog you see version number 1.8.0 and no “(cuda)” next to it.
            • It has finished scanning all your photos (you see “Ready” status in the status string below few minutes later after program starts)
            • You have turned on “Recognized faces” option for all your locations in “Library locations” dialog
            • You have seen this video about working with faces in Tonfotos
            • You have already added about 20 people to your library
            • In majority of your folders faces on photos got recognized successfully, when you open File information panel on the right, you can see portraits of the people there
            • but there is one exception, one folder where there is no portraits on File info panel on any of the photos, and even if you try to add manually faces, you still get nothing. On any of the faces from that folder.

            Is that correct summary of your situation? If yes, I would ask you to send few pictures from that folder to support@tonfotos.com, I will try it on my PC so we will be able to determine, if this issue is picture specific or it only happens on your PC. Then we will be able to understand where to go next from there.

                sorry its taken time to get back to you. i ended up turning off the program and doing my project the hard way, brute force looking through 1000’s of photos looking for my Father in law to get pictures for his funeral video. it’s done and gone.

                due to me having a degenerative nerve disease and pushing through it and not getting the sleep i dearly needed to get that project done i ended up crashing and have slept 18+ hours each day for the last few days, i’m finally stating to feel human.

                now i can go back and look at the program.

                what i’ve done is deleted the program from my computer, i made sure cuda was gone as well.
                i redownloaded the program and only told it to look trhough the single folder of around 700 photos that i knew i had put together with all the photos i had scanned, downloaded from family, and found myself using that brute force method.

                then i’m going to see how many people its discovered.

                i had set it to run one night after the funeral, and i know that it has found peoples faces, i’m seeing a lot more names showing up.

                i did not download CUDA, should i? i see now that version 1.8.1 is available, i assume i should go ahead and upgrade so i’m going to do that now.

                i’ll send another message after i see where it is after the update….. bt in the maintime, do i download cuda?

On any of the faces from that folder. this seems to have changed quite a bit i now have many of my fil photos showing. i guess doing a 100% purge of your program and the cuda and after a few days doing an install from the link provided after i paid for this program, (which is backwards to the first time i installed the free then added the purchase code) but not installing cuda

                    ok, it looks like this beast is now running…. on the wrong side of the funeral i bought it for, but it works.

                    So my only questions now are,
                    1) should i install cuda
                    2) how many different people can the program recognize?

                      Quozlator I am really sorry that it did not work out for you as planned. But I am glad it works now.

                      Going back you your questions,

                      1) That is totally optional. Installing CUDA plugin will speed up initial scanning time by increasing speed of face recognition on new photos. But you have already scanned your photos, so there will be difference for you. Unless you plan to index few more dozens of thousands of photos, you can just skip it.
                      2) There is no hard limitation for people amount. Some users have more than thousand people in their library and organize them into groups.

                        now i’ve run into an issue where it thinks i’m using my serial number on different computers.

                        i assure you, this 1 single computer is more than enough work for me, lol.
