Library File Location changed names

Hi,
My library of photos folder is called Family_CD and is on my E drive on my local desktop . Windows 10

My library location was identified as E:/Family_CD which was proper.

I have approximately 160,000 photos on Tonfotos

Everything was working properly until tonight.

I had cloned my E drive and replaced it with the new SSD drive today

but the Tonfotos library location all of a sudden changed to Family_CD with the notation underneath that the "USB drive is disconnected.

The photos seem to be all intact with the facial recognition, etc… but there is no scanning taking place.

The locations of the photos are Family_CD instead of E:/Family_CD on the Tonfotos file information

The only thing I can think of is that I may have interchanged the drive SATA positions by reconnecting them on different motherboard locations with my sata cables as I had to take both drives out when I did the exchange..

My second pc on my network is reading/scanning normally the Tonfotos files as before.

I just tried reversing the SATA cables to the drives but no difference.

Library location is still incorrect and no scanning taking place

I just noticed that I appear to have instances of Tonfotos installed as per the attached screenshot.

There as a period of time when I had a Family_CD folder on a USB attached and scanning.

Could this be causing the problem?

No, this has nothing to do with this issue. This is just how autoupdates mechanism work, it will remove old version after some time.

Tonfotos has mechanism that tries to be tolerant to plugging/unplugging your hard drive which can lead to assigning it to different drive letter. It meant to detect it anyway and work with it even if drive letter has changed. But this is assuming your physical drive remains the same. In your case, you actually changed your physical drive, and that can cause Tonfotos to rightfully assume this is not the same archive, and still be waiting for old one to be plugged back in.

The easiest way to resolve this situation is to delete old folder from your archive and add new one. This will lead to another indexing of your archive, but this is guaranteed to work OK. All your face associations will be restored again since Tonfotos saves them into ini files next to photos.

I deleted the library location and readded the correct one, however now I cannot get tonfotos to load.
No matter how many times I select it, the software will not run.
I also tried reinstalling the software but still no succesful running

(I did not uninstall the software before reinstalling as I did not want to lose my license)

MelFish that is not good^ sorry to hear that. How exactly it stopped working?

There are two ways going forward. You can deinstall software and install it again. Deinstallation and removes all traces of previous installation (this is what we need) and frees up your activation, but since there is something wrong with application already, there is a chance it will not do that, in that case just write me a email to support@tonfotos.com with your serial number, and I will fix that for you, so no worries.

Another way is to try to identify the reason for this fault you are facing. To do that you will need to start application from the command line, the instruction is here: https://community.tonfotos.com/d/26-making-debug-logs-in-tonfotos/2 I will need screenshot of your console to understand what exactly failed.

My preference would be second way, it will give us better understanding what exactly went wrong. But it is up to you to decide.

MelFish Hmmm… That is what I was afraid of. Database got corrupted. I am still interested to learn how that happened. Can you please recall what exactly you did before app stopped to start? Did you have any power outages? Unexpected computer restart? Did you forcefully close the application?

In any case, there is the only way now - uninstall an install again. Sorry for all that trouble.

All I did was clone my 1gb “E” hard drive and replace it with an SSD drive.
Tonfotos was not active when I turned off the PC and when I restarted it.

The cloneing was done with proper software so there should not have been any problem?

I will uninstall and reinstall as suggested.

I will let you know if I need you to update my family license

Hi,

I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and presently I am reloading the data.

I notced that the library states that the location E:\Family_CD shows up as a removable drive although it is installed on my desktop pc?

Please adjust my family license to only show two PC’s authorized at this time.

Technically there is no significant difference between second hard drive and USB-puggable drive. Both can be unplugged and remapped to another drive letter. So to be on the safe side, Tonfotos treats them all as external.
