Andrey : I am writing to support the request to be able to add a new face by drawing a bounding box.
Tonfotos does an astonishingly excellent job of recognizing faces even when the face is turned, partly obscured, blurry, poorly exposed and/or very small, Thank you for bringing my attention to the “Add new face here” that is at the bottom of the context menu when right clicking inside an existing bounding box. Because the “Add new face here” item is at the top of the menu when clicking outside of a bounding box for a face, I hadn’t noticed that it was at the bottom. I had been working around this problem by deleting the face and attempting to re-add the two faces, which sometimes worked.
Very very occasionally, tonfotos refuses to find a face that I think should be findable. It appears that tonfotos might have more difficulty with faces in black and white pictures. I have a recent, high quality, digital wedding photo shot by a professional photographer, in both a colour and a B&W version. Tonfotos found the bride’s face automatically in the colour picture but steadfastly reports that it “Could not find a new person’s face…” when I try to add it to the B&W version. I also have some B&W baby photos from the 50s scanned from medium format film where tonfotos is also unable to find the face even though it is fairly clear, reasonably exposed and focused, the face is not obscured, and the face shows both eyes, nose, and mouth. Overall though tonfotos does an excellent job of finding the faces in my fairly large collection of B&W pictures including the poor quality images.
For these occasional pictures where tonfotos cannot locate a face, I would much like to be able to click-drag a box around the face and add it to the tonfotos database. I am glad that this is on your list of features to add. Thank you.
