aljo_petek thank you for bringing this topic up. From time to time I get requests like that, but I was always wondering what are real use cases. In my mind, if you want hierarchy you can use folders for that, right? I typically use albums to make thematic collections, like nice cars, cats, portraits that are good for social media. I don’t really need nesting there. But I am eager to hear what other people think.
Hi, I have tons of pics in my picture folders but in albums i want to have all organized. I want special pics to be in my albums. Example: Id like to have album called “Tim” (my son) and than all organized in nested folder: First Vacation, First School, … In folders its hard to work with 50 folders or more.
aljo_petek interesting, can you please explain why it is difficult to work with many folders but not so difficult to work with same amount of albums? I am not sure I get the point.
It will be better for me to have 10 albums well organized. Its not so easy to navigate trough cca 70 folders. Especially without search function. Ok is not such a big deal but I really want to change Mylio with something else. I don’t like all the unnecessary things that come with it. All i want is a simple photo manager.
aljo_petek if your plan is to be able to move your collection from one application to another, probably albums are not the best choice. The thing is, albums only exist inside application database, if one gets lost, they go away too. Instead, there are tags. From usability standpoint it is basically the same thing, but difference is, tags get written inside image files, and thus will be visible in all applications, not just in one you used to make them.
Just a thought.
I have more than 200 folders of photos. I have albums for the ones I need the most. But now I have everything mixed up in albums. It would be easy if I had an album called “Family” and had everything in sub-albums organised by event. Now I have cars, motorbikes, work stuff in between. For me, this feature and a plain slideshow would be great. It would also get rid of Mylio. In fact, iPhotos was also very good, which unfortunately no longer exists.
aljo_petek ok, got it, thank you.
As you probably know, I prioritise features based on popularity - the more people ask for it, the higher it is in the roadmap. This one is not that high so far, but let’s wait, more people may vouch for it and it will definitely help to increase priority.
No hard feelings. I’m looking for something to replace Mylio with. For now i am staying with it.
