Thank you for responding Andrey. I was working in the face recognition area that applied only with the face file I lost. I had accepted 2-3 proposed faces by the program, and had deleted, or non-selected 1. After doing that, the opportunity to update was posted to my program, as before in the past, I accepted the update and stopped all activity until the update had finished.
When the update restarted the program, it placed me back where I had been working but it was apparent that this persons file had been deleted or emptied. I did, at that time, find 1 or 2 photos with this individual in the photo, and there was still a dotted frame around his face and I was able to confirm the program suggested name and it did post to his file. So all other program functions seemed to work, and have worked over the several days since the deletion. It now appears that I will have to re-identify his face for the 15 K photos all over again. Not ideal, but the rest of the program integrity seems intact.
