I have a Nikon d3500 camera which I sometimes use with the Nikon SnapBridge app on my phone. SnapBridge connects to the camera using bluetooth and updates GPS position periodically, but NOT continuously. This means the GPS time recorded on a photo is somewhat out of date and several consecutive photos can be tagged with the same GPS time.
Tonfotos seems to use GPS time to set its Created metadata in preference to the photo’s Create EXIF tags, and the result is that photos are displayed out of order.
I can see that GPS time might be more authoritative for photos taken on phones, but it doesn’t work for me! Some way of controlling this behaviour would be a great help.
e.g. from EXIF data as reported by exiftool:
Exif Version : 0230
Date/Time Original : 2026:05:26 10:47:32
Create Date : 2026:05:26 10:47:32
… (following section does not show in Tonfotos file info panel)
Create Date : 2026:05:26 10:47:32.30
Date/Time Original : 2026:05:26 10:47:32.30
Modify Date : 2026:05:26 10:47:32.30
…
GPS Date/Time : 2026:05:26 06:49:07Z
Tonfotos metadata is:
Created: 26/05/2026 07:49:07 (matches GPS time corrected for daylight saving)
(in this case the GPS data is completely wrong! Probably because SnapBridge was not running at the time).
I see in a 2022 discussion https://community.tonfotos.com/d/24-photos-archived-by-event-based-on-wrong-date that “Tonfotos is definitely programmed to prefer EXIF time stamp over anything else” - maybe this is not still the case?
