2 users on different computers

If I upgrade my license to allow for more users and they are on different pc’s/laptops sharing the same photo archive on an external NAS can they share the same tonfotos central database rather than having to scan and identify all the faces on the second machine. It has taken a long time to do the identification on the first machine.

mastersian When using several instances of Tonfotos on different PC’s, they will have their own independent databases, however, all information about people on the photos will be synchronised during scan. So yes, initial scanning will take time anyway.

In theory it is possible to make centralised server with database and all applications would connect to it, but it would be completely different type of software, much harder to install and administrate. And it will require dedicated PC too, one that will be always on.

Tonfotos is targeted for home users with different pc administration skills, so we try to keep its administration as simple as possible.

Understood, it was the facial recognition I was most concerned about. If that information is picked up during an initial scan by the new PC then that’s okay. Thanks as always

Just checking, but is what you’ve said true even if one of the PC’s is running windows and the other a Mac?

Sorry another question on same thread. If i am updating the facial recognition on one PC only, how long will it take for any other PC’s to pick up that information>? DO you have to force a rescan of the entire library, does Tonfotos do it periodically or something else?

Tonfotos does regular rescan of all sources, so typically you don’t need to force rescan. At least once per day every source gets rescanned, but typically much more often.
