Different folders sorting, date format and localization

Hi Andrey, first of all thank you so much for Tonfotos which I just discovered! I’ve been looking for an alternative to Picasa on Linux for a long time…
One request: it would be great to have the ability to sort folders in other ways (default is alphabetical, but reverse alphabetic would also be good, for someone like me who organizes folders by year/month/day; and maybe also by creation date if possible…).
I’d also like to be able to change the date format on the Events tab (default is “month day, year” but here we’re used to “day month year”).
Finally, are there other translations than English, German and Russian available? If not, how can I contribute for Italian? (I found locales/it.pak but it doesn’t look like a localization).

In the future it would be great if you split individual questions and suggestions into separate threads. This way it will be much easier for other members to vote for suggestions they also support, helping to prioritise them higher.

Folders sort order

Do you expect it to be permanent sort order that you set in preferences or that should be something you can switch on the fly depending on the task?

Date format

The date format is supposed to be according to local settings. What OS do you have? Is date format OK in other applications?

For the order I think it is better to be able to change it on the fly, or in any case with a well accessible option in the Folders tab.

The date works OK with the other apps. I have Linux Mint 21 (based on last LTS Ubuntu).

For the translation, check the email!

Tommy I have added task about date format into my bug tracker.

As to sorting order suggestion, I would prefer to hold on to it for a while and see if more people have same need. UI is subtle thing, it is quite easy to overload it with lots of function so it becomes not so easy and self evident for people. That is why I have to be careful here.

This forum works great as a tool to collect votes for demanded functionality. Quite often when one person suggests something useful, other people immediately join in and support. So we will need to see if there will be more people supporting this one.

Maybe a good alternative would be to make the timeline expandable in the “Events” section. With ten years of photos I find myself a line like that and it’s not very easy to navigate to look for photos of a specific month or day!

Tommy I guess you dont realize how much effort went from me and designer for this events time scale to end up like that. We checked multiple alternatives and all of them had thier disadvanteges. In the end we decided tha this is the optimal choice. It migth be not very intuitive at first, but it is actaully quite convenient and easy to navigate. What you need to understand is that you don’t need to try to point to exact event with your mouse on this timeline. Instead you need to aim close enought and then just scroll up or down a bit. By the way, quite often when you look for something on the timeline, you don’t actually know exact date anyway, just rough time period. Span of timeline in my own archive starts from previous century and I am still able to navigate just fine.

I would suggest just to give it a chance and I hope you will love it in the end 🙂
