I’m currently using Tonfotos 1.13.8 (cuda).
For new users, this is just a recap:
This (or any other version) does not have the option to store the database on a NAS drive. Its all stored on you local machine. It stores all info on the images/folders on the NAS - so when installing tonfotos on a new machine, the system will scan all the folders on the NAS drive. This takes time. Anyhow this just how it works and I really like this program even though its designed like this.
But I have found a way that works better for me.. this is how, read on..
I use a good PC with (CUDA) graphic card and i7, 16gb, ssd drive.
I have all my photos stores on a NAS drive. (remember the raid setup with striping is faster than mirroring)
I found that I could sit with my laptop on the couch with wifi and remote into my other machine that has tonfotos installed and the speed if so much better, than if I was using a local database on my laptop using wifi (which is much slower).
Now the speed of switching photos and adding text (exif info) is much more smoother.
Hope this helps others with “slow laptops” and been able to get most out of the program.
