Importing from various HDD image collections

Firstly just want to say I’m loving Tonfoto’s but I’m struggling with a few things. This is what I have done so far.

I used the image contents of my Macbook “Photos” library to create a location called Photos2 on an external HDD which now has my Tonfotos database and this is the only file location specified in the xxxxxxxxxxxx
I have gone through the whole of the Tonfotos database assigning groups of images to various albums and Tags, and deleting unwanted photos.
I now want to start importing photos from various other hard drives that I have accumulated over the years.
I did a trial on a small folder of images from one of the HDDs and imported the folder contents. I did not tick the box for ignoring duplicates. When I checked the Tonfotos ‘Events’ tab I saw that duplicates had indeed been created, and rightly or wrongly I went and deleted the images that had been added that were duplicates.
So my questions are
(a) should these duplicates have been created?
(b) does the “Ignore” duplicates check button work opposite to how I’ve interpreted it?
© having imported these duplicates should I have run the Remove Duplicates routine rather than deleting them manually?

If you checked that box, then they should not. However, files are not considered as duplicates if they are not exact copies. Editing metadata might be the reason files are not exact copies anymore.

(b) does the “Ignore” duplicates check button work opposite to how I’ve interpreted it?

I don’t think so. I guess metadata editing was the reason.

You can. However, if files are not exact copies, it will not help.
