What is the source of names under the 'People' tab?

Hello,
I’m a new user and recently purchased Tonfotos and am very pleased with the product. I have a question about how the names under ‘People’ are generated.

After the initial scan, I find a large number of names, many that I don’t recognize. I’ve searched for the names in the files but don’t find any references. I don’t have a method to search the meta data.

Please outline the source(s) of the names and confirm that Tonfotos keeps all my data private.

Sure, Tonfotos is not a cloud drive, all file names, faces, and photos stay with you, we don’t send it anywhere. For exact details about information that we collect please refer to our Privacy policy

If you found some unexpected people names in your archive, those could come from following places:

Image metadata inside file (stored there by some other photo management app)
Image metadata stored as sidecar XMP file next to it
picasa.ini files stored one per folder by Picasa (if you used it before)

It should be one of those, I believe.

I’ve gathered photos from many sources and know that some of them used Picasa in the past. I expect the names came from there.
