gosimon Yes, you are correct. This is currently a limitation since this feature is build on top of import from smartphone functionality. Algorithm has to trust the creation date from file system which is usually not and issue in case of smartphone, but in regular folder can have arbitrary date attribute and we need to check metadata.
I will add this issue to backlog for future.
As a temporary workaround, you can use F6 on all imported videos as a second step to move them correct folders. This one will use correct dates.
