Inport faces data from Windows Live Photos images

Audrey, I have thousands of photos with existing face tags in the XMP data from Windows Live Photos. Is there anyway to import these tags into the tonfotos database? You are correct about the XMP data not being standardized or sufficient for the archival work that we are trying to accomplish with our photos.

leftside I have been experimenting with faces data stored in embedded XMP for some time and it worked fine (I am talking about import of markup to Tonfotos database), but I would not say that I am very confident it will work in all cases, as I did my tests just on handful of samples. This area still requires more testing, and as you said, there is no standard and result vary depending on application that has been used to write this markup.

I would encourage you to try it out yourself on small sample set. Just copy few samples into separate directory and add this directory into Tonfotos index. Since this is just a few sample, indexing should not take long. In case you encounter any issues, I would be happy to take a look at your samples and adjust Tonfotos algorithms to better support Windows Live Photos.

I commented too soon. I’ve been importing photos for days, (I have a large collection of family photos including scanned film). It started with the newer photos that haven’t been tagged yet. It’s finally getting to the older photos that have tags and pulling in people and faces. This is great news. I’m so glad I found this project. How can I help support the project?

Thank you very much for kind words! The area where project needs helps most is awareness. These days it is not enough to build something cool, you need to find some creative way to let people know about it, and this is not that easy task at all, giving all the informational noise we are living in. So, if you can spread the word, that would be the best help possible. Also, you can consider purchasing Pro version when project comes out of beta (soon, I hope). That definitely helps 🙂

Does it work the other way around as well? Is the exported data in a format that WLPG can understand?

I hope to purchase the pro version if it solves our tagging issues. I’d still like to be able to fall back to what I know works if we have to though.

As to Pro - there is no difference in functionality between Free and Pro when it comes to tags, As of now (v. 1.3.9) the only difference is the limitation on number of people in the library in Free version. All other features work just the same.
