Reorganizing the photos :-(

I had pictures stored on my disk in folders for each year, and inside each year, there were folders for each trip—for example, a “2023” folder containing subfolders like “Denmark,” “Italy,” etc. Each folder contained photos taken during those trips. Tonfotos has reorganized them so that within the yearly folder, new folders with dates were created, and the photos were placed inside them. How can I fix this

Which view are you using to see your photos? Folders, Events, Locations, Albums or People? I have my photos organized in folders by year-month “Photos 2025-03” for March 2025. If there was a major event such as a trip or party, I would have one or more sub-folders in that month. In TonFotos, in Folder view I’m seeing my original folder structure.

Jall13 Tonfotos does not move your files around until you directly tell it to do so. I’m afraid there is more to this story. Can you please share full story?

Andrey I probably approved Tonfotos at some point to reorganize my photos this way (so far, I’ve only used it to remove duplicate photos). Unfortunately, I don’t know how to revert it to its previous state. So, my question is: can I, and how do I, restore the previous organization of my photos?

Jall13 There is only two functions in Tonfotos that would do this type of structure: import from the phone and moving to main archive. I believe you used second one.

I don’t think there is a simple way to revert back those changes, I am afraid…

Hi Jall13. In one of your folders where you know there are events or a trip, can you open the folder and see how the photos are arranged? Are there any sub folders. You don’t have to post an image here (keep it private) but maybe see how the photos are arranged within the folders.

By chance do you rename your filenames of photos and videos? I do, so all the photos of say “John’s birthday” I’ll do a batch change of the filenames to “John birthday 20March2025” for instance and Windows sequentially numbers the photos, John birthday 20March2025-1.jpeg, John birthday 20March2025-2.jpeg, etc. If you had renamed the pictures TonFotos can search by filename even if you’ve lost your file structure.

Another question, do you have a backup of your photos somewhere?
