Face confirmation seems endless

Hi,
I’ve been using Tonfotos for over a year now. Over the past year, I’ve been intermittently confirming faces in my large collection of pictures. However, the process feels endless.

It seems that previously confirmed faces are being reevaluated and require reconfirmation. It would be great if this confirmation process could be completed at some point.

Could you help me understand what’s happening? Is there a way to resolve this, or do I need to persevere and continue for another year?

MieHoen Sorry to hear about the issue. Hard to say right away what is happeing, let me ask few questions first.

Did you do any manipulations with the photos outside Tonfotos? Editing files, changing file structure, moving somewhere else, etc.?
Did you note what is happeing with the number of faces in personal libraries? Did it shrink? If for some reasons some faces were unassigned, it would definitely shrink. If it did not, could it be that those are actually faces from new photos you did not confirm before, and they just look similar/familiar, but not exactly the same?

no, I did not do any manipulations to the files. they are still in same spot. I do have many photos, also many “duplicates”, but they remain in same spot.

That is also partly the reason I got this program. To be able to handle this many photos and get a grip.

What would help btw is to have an indicator showing in which folder there are still unassigned faces (and how many). Some type of photos are much more easy to process than others. For example, I have xmas photos of our family with only few same persons. Easy to handle.
I have also folders with pictures of football team parties. Many unknown and not needed faces that can be quickly ignored.

Well, if we just look for most probable explanation, I would suggest that there is no “reappearing” bug and program just doing its job. And it doing it well, still supplying you with more and more suggestions. After all, that’s the program is for, isn’t it?

Probably with photos like that it would make sense just to go thru them one by one, manually mark ones you want and ignore the rest with Control+I. Even though this is not very automated process, I guess that for those photos specifically that would be most efficient approach rather than just wait for suggestions.

I came to TonFotos from using Google Picasa and Picasa had names to faces which TonFotos imported. I don’t know if that was part of my problem but it took me about a week working on photos of two people for whom I have the most photos before things settled down. I also started deleting name/face suggestions where the pictures were fuzzy or where the face was obscured by being sideways or low resolution. After a week of work on photos of these two people, TonFotos is stable in the sense no new false positives. What is your strategy for confirming names to faces? Are you confirming all or just the higher resolution photos with good views of the faces? When I started eliminating the fuzzy photos and photos where there was not even a good side profile, then TonFotos settled down.
