Automatic construction of a family tree
Many of our users actively use the family ties function to mark who is related to whom. However, this information lacked clarity. Many asked to add not only direct relatives, but also grandchildren/grandfathers, so that when viewing a person’s file, their entire family would be immediately visible.
Now we have added a function that makes all family connections as clear as possible - family trees. You can view the family tree both from the context menu of a person and from the extended information about a person. The tree will be built from the person for whom you called this function.
Family tree structures
In the current version there is a choice between two - “Bowtie” and “Hourglass”.
The bowtie a simple and visual structure where the number of generations of the main couple’s ancestors is limited to two, and only one generation of children is shown. Due to their visual appeal, such trees are great for sharing on social networks, as congratulations for family celebrations, and are also a great option to print such a tree on a poster for a child’s project at school.
The hourglass, in turn, provides the ability to draw a complete tree of all the ancestors and descendants of the selected person (and if the person is married, then this couple). as deep as this information is present in the Tonfotos database. Also, next to the central couple, their brothers and sisters will be added, but their descendants will not be displayed.
Thus, by choosing the desired person, you have complete control over what exactly will be displayed on the tree.
Design styles
Three tree design styles are immediately available.
Antique has no background, uses a minimum of ink and will look great even if printed on a black and white printer. At the same time, it looks very stylish. Also, if you want to use Tonfotos Tree only as a boilerplate for further processing in a graphic editor, then you will most likely prefer this style.
Matrimonial is perfect for decorating trees as a gift for a wedding, anniversary, birth of a child in the family, and so on.
Royal is made in the style in which professional genealogists would decorate it: with a tree in the background, inscriptions on “towels”, faces decorated with beautiful frames, connections made in the form of ropes with knots. Such a tree can easily be printed on A2 and will look great in your living room, and you do not need to overpay for the artist’s work.

Access to the function
And the best news is that despite the fact that this is a premium function that allows you to create gorgeous trees, ready to print, which are either expensive or very labor-intensive to make in any other way, this function is fully available to all users of Tonfotos without any separate paid options. The only thing to keep in mind is that in the free version of the program it will be difficult to fully use the function due to the limitation on the number of people - the tree will not be very large.
How to get the tree
The resulting family tree image can be easily “taken” in maximum resolution for further use. There are two ways to do this: copy the image using the standard Control+C combination, after which it will be easy to paste it into a graphics editor or messenger chat. The second way is to use the regular export function (via main menu), then you can specify the desired resolution, format and compression level.
Known limitations
There is currently no support for displaying ex-spouses and children from previous marriages. Only children directly listed as children will be displayed.
