Scroll bar in the photo feed

Thanks for the response. So for number 3, I’m not sure I’m following or maybe I wasn’t clear. When a web page loads, it has a scrollbar that grows depending on length of content. Having that option would be ideal vs nothing at all (to click and drag). My finger would be exhausted if I continoisly used my scroll wheel to venture towards the bottom of the picture page. Does that make sense?

Josh, yes I understand what you are talking about. Let me jut use your analogy: imagine this web page is so long, literally many thousands of pages, so the head of scrollbar becomes very tiny, and when you move it just one pixel up or down with your mouse, you get scrolled very far away from where you have been before.

That is what most of the users would experience if there would be a scroll bar on main section (photo feed).

Andrey Can it be a lazy loading process? Maybe a few pages at a time, or a pagination process? Or at least give me the option to do that?

Josh technically it already implemented as lazy loading. Othewise it would require enormous amount of memory to work. Only small part of the actual feed is loaded into memory at any point of time. But that is not relevant to scroller position. Scroller should show actual position, or it will only confuse people.

Andrey But how do I know where I’m at in the list when “scrolling” or pushing up the list… or that there are thousands of photos listed? Is there any indication?

Josh depending on the mode, there is different index on the left pane: folders, people, events, albums. Whenever you scroll, current position is always sinchronized with index on the left. Also, you can jump to any group of photos by selecting it in the index. However, there is no indication of current position within the group, unfortunately.

Well, I don’t say this implementation is ideal, I just can’t think of anything better. I was thinking about scroller a lot, but I fail to come up with useful implementation that is not confusing. Any ideas are wellcome.

I was thinking more about this. Maybe you can add a “Show More” button or link at the bottom of lets say X number of photos shown. That way, if I do not want to see every photo in the folder or face recognition area under people, it would only show a set amount. This could be done by being responsive to the device/monitor. E.g., a large screen would show more photos upfront, then clicking Show More would show the same amount of photos added to the list.

So if X=10, Show More would have 20 photos shown OR it would fill up the rest of the area in the screen, as if I enlarged the app window, it could fill in the rest of the blank space with photos and a Show More button at the bottom of that.

I believe that might be tricky when more faces are recognized, but right now the list of yellow question marks can become cumbersome at times.
