Changing Size of Volume → … is not connected

After changing the size of a disk partition with my photos, Tonfotos doesn’t recognize the volume any more. It displays the error “[Folder name] is not connected. Please plug in USB storage again to see the image.” when I try to open an image.

In my case on Windows 10, volume_uid is not set. I would use the value of dev for comparison in the respective function, since it contains a UUID like \\?\Volume{df028f4f-981a-4d2e-89d0-376f68bc6e5d}\ or the full path to a network share.

Mike F You are totally right, the issue is that Windows does not have proper UUID for volumes, and this path like \\?\Volume{df028f4f-981a-4d2e-89d0-376f68bc6e5d}\ is just fake id, Windows does not guarantee anything about it. That is why Tonfotos has to guess which dirve is what based on bunch of inderect attributes, and drive size is usually very good identifier. So I cannot agree this is necessarily a bug, more like a feature 🙂

So there is two ways going forward. Official and safe solution is to just remove old drive and add it once again in “Library locations”. You will have to wait for some time it will be indexed, but all your face and people associations will be safe, as they are stored in ‘tonfotos.ini’.

Another way is very risky as it requires manually patching %AppData%/tonfotos/config.json file by changing drive attributes to current ones. So I can’t recommend it.

Thank you for your quick reply. Adapting config.json with the Capacity shown using the PowerShell command gwmi Win32_Volume worked well!

I wanted to avoid removing and adding them again, because I have about 330.000 photos in my library. Rescanning them would take a huge amount of time.
