Faves, Albums etc. removed from DB when changing folder hierarchy

I am not sure if the folder managemant is working as intended. I’ll try to explain and please excuse my English.

I had folder x:\pics\3 added to the library. Everything went fine. I was able to create albums, tag faves etc.
Then I added the whole x:\pics\ to the libray and what probably happened is that x:\pics\3 is automatically removed, because it is part of the higher hierarchy. So far so good.

The problem is, and I don’t think this works as intended, that the already indexed folder is removed first from the database, before it is ‘recognized’ as being still in the library. Meaning, everything is lost. Albums and Faves are gone and it has to be completly indexed again.

The Folders are on a NAS as attached drives in Win Explorer but I don’t think that matters?!)

Race2024 You are correct, when you do such a drastic change to your archive layout, Tonfotos would just forget old drive and start indexing it anew, based on new archive location.

I would not necessary call this a bug, rather a limitation. In theory, there could be much smarter handling for such use case, but it is actally so rare, so you are literally the first one to complain about it. With that said, I am a bit pessimistic that I will be able to prioritize this fix above other much more requested improvements. But some day - maybe.

I understand that it is not a high priority and now that I understood how this works, it won’t happen again.

But a warning would have been nice, like the one when manually removing a folder from the library. I could just have added the other subfolders instead of the parent directory, saving me a lot of time not having to start all over.
