  • Tonfotos hang/freeze

Have indexed everytghing. Tonfotos worked. Suddenly it does not but hangs/freezes on start up.Have tried uninstalling reinstalling both tonfotos and CUDA - also tried installoing 1.9.8. No luck so far. It just starts up and shows this:

Tried running debug mode from CMD - it stops here -but its not the image that makes the trouble…

    Moxtell Have you tried answering the question that application asks? Does it resolve the issue?

      I can´t click the button. It freezes right there….no respons…

        Moxtell Hm, that’s odd. Are you sure there are no more errors in the output to the terminal?

        You can avoid that message if you will hide people.tnfp file temporarily, such as rename it or move away for a while. However I doubt that this is what causing the freeze. Anyway, worth trying.

          Did work either. Tried uninstalling opnce nmore - both tonfotos and CUDA. I even used REVO Uninstaller to clean everything up. Tried starting now gets this error (have subtituted some of the path- and filenames with abcd:

          Moxtell Is freeze happening after +0ms | synchronizing dossier 1715788888042 Desktop? If yes, I guess I know what it could be. Similar bug is already fixed in version that is not yet releases. However that bug does does not actually freeze the applications, it only stops indexing.

              +0ms | synchronizing dossier 1715788888042 Desktop is where it freezes…but other times it´s at other places. I really can´t figure out what is causing this issue? I have uninstalled using REVO Uninstaller, to remove any småll bits of the software - both for the CUDA and Tonfotos itself, after that reebooting, installing once again - start up and it says Dossier file found and stops working. Totally stops and only stops when I stop it in jobmanager. Some of the images is on Onedrive, but its locally on the PC as well, and it has worked in the start, but suddenly doesn´t .

                  Moxtell Tonfotos installation is pretty simple. It only stores its files in one place (AppData/Local/tonfotos) and its database and configuration in another (AppData/Roaming/tonfotos), so you don’t need any external software to uninstall Tonfotos cleanly, it does not put any dll’s into Win32 and so on. It does not leave garbage in registry. I would actually not recomend using any software like that to remove Tonfotos, since I have no idea what they do and if they introduce any additional damage into your system.

                  Some users have reproted that recognition instability issues when CUDA is installed, but it never resulted in frezes, only in missing faces. And, as I understand, in your case you don’t have CUDA runtime installed, so it cannot be the source of the issue.

                  Actually, I am running out of ideas what can be wrong, especially because it all worked fine before.

                  By the way, have you already tried my suggestion with renaming people.tnfp? This would make this message box not to appear. You said “Did work either” but as I can see from the logs, message box actually pops up. What message box is that? Could it be that you have ’people.tnfp` in multiple places? Actually you don’t need many, it is enough to keep one, they are identical.

                    Thx - I did move the peoplle.tnfp to another directory, but it still came up? How come? Anyway - I´ll try to delete all files in tonfotos folders you mention and start all over once more. I use CUDA, but tried without once - it did not help either. STill freeze. And its a brand new Windows 11 ASUS Laptop with super specs…so its not the machine that´s causing these issues….

                      Moxtell Yes, I am also very confused. I’ve seen many issues, but this one is pretty unique. No one has ever reported anything even remotely similar.

                      I don’t think removing tonfotos itself would make a lot of sense. We already know this is not what causing issues.

                      My suggestion would be to remove database and config folder to start clean, and then instead of restoring your full confuguration, I would suggest to go with small steps, making sure everything works smoothly, then do next increment, then next, and so on. This way it would be much easier to isolate the source of the issues.

                      By small increments I mean start from just one folder in the beginning, smallest one, and remove everything else, right on the configuration screen, even before it started any indexing. Then let it finish, check if everything is OK. Then add another of your folders and see how it goes. And only later add your main archive. Does it make sense to you?
