I have a huge library where I have JPG, Heic and CR2 and other raw formats.
Lightroom does save the XMP data in the image where possible otherwise is save in an external file .XMP with the same name of the picture.
To move from Lightroom as well as to manage correctly the XMP data is crucial to be able to read and write the XMP data not only embedded but even on file
