Searching for faces that have not been assigned to people
We’ve been having a discussion with a number of active users for quite some time now about how best to deal with faces in photos that aren’t people in your library. There are two approaches:
- Just ignore them (we initially recommended this approach), since they do not interfere at all with navigating through the people you are interested in, and generally do not show up in the program interface much.
- Delete all such faces so that only the faces of the people you are interested in remain. Despite our beliefs, a number of users prefer this approach, despite the fact that it requires more effort.
We’ve previously added functionality to make things easier for those who prefer a clean databse, including a hotkey Control+I
that lets you remove all unmarked faces from selected photos with one click.
But for a long time, one of the main demands of such users was to add the ability to see in one place all the photographs in which these faces remained. They proposed special icons that would mark the thumbnails of such photos, a separate section in the “people” tab, etc. However, in the end, it seems to us, we found a better way, which does not break the current interface concept at all, does not complicate it, does not add unnecessary visual noise in the form of icons, but at the same time completely solves this problem. This is a special “Unassigned faces” filter. It can be added like any other filter - through the input line in the toolbar, or through the main program menu:
As a result, you will be able to see all the photos that still contain such faces, sorted by date:
The filter’s content will dynamically update as you work with the faces in those photos. This filter can be combined with any other supported filters.
