Videos not showing up in Tonfotos

I have added a network library location for Tonfotos to scan and gather information on my videos so I can manage them as I am doing with my photos.
For some reason,many folders of videos and pictures that I subsequently added to this location are not being scanned and indexed by tonfotos.
I do not see the folder or the items in the folder on tonfotos.
I have tried to reindex but no luck.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

MelFish Is Tonfotos still scanning or shows “Ready” in status line below? Some videos can take quite a while to index, so it may be that indexing is not done yet, that is why files are not show in the index.

It appears that the software has started to scan and read the files as you suggest. Thanks.
The biggest problem I am having is the delay in tonfotos loading on startup ( I have over 160,000 photos along with thousands of videos ) and probably more importantly that tonfotos does not repond to any mouse selection commands unitl it is completely started and not busy with other functions. I can wait for some time before the software reconizes my clicking on a tab or trying to select a photo, etc… with the mouse click.

MelFish Well, that does not sound normal, typically application is very responsive, some users even complain that it does not use all system resources to do indexing faster. Something affects its normal performance in your case. How fast is your system drive? Is it HDD or SDD? Database is stored on C: and if C: is very slow I guess that may affect application performance.

Both the hosted desktop C drive and photo library are using SSD drives.

I am connected to the photo library location drive on the local host desktop at the same time as I am connected to a second network desktop with this location as a library.

I have also added a video library location (on the network) to the second desktop with both photos and videos and it is presently scanning and acquiring the data on the video library.

For some reason the main desktop is freezing up although it is not connected to the video library that the secondary desktop is scanning.

Even before starting my video library scanning, we noticed on both desktops that it would take 5- 10 minutes before we could use tonfotos as it appeared to be loading the data. It also takes about 5 - 10 seconds after any selection for the software to respond. i.e merging, adding name on recogition, etc…

We are presenly al;so going through all of the “people” files and merging them as most of them have 2-3 listings that require merging. This is taking place primarily on the main host desktop.

We have 32 gb memory using windows 10. Intel I7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz on each pc

MelFish Thank you for detailed answer. Am I right that those freezes are only appearing fist few minutes after start and then goes away? In that case it cannot be speed of your main drive, as it will not suddenly become faster after some time.

When Tonfotos is started it scans all available resources looking for changes. So my next theory is that this scanning is affecting performance, but when scanning is finished, everything goes back to normal. Can you please next time pay attention to the status bar in the bottom of the Tonfotos window and see if there is any connection between freezes and resources that are being scanned? Will freeze go away right after scanning is done or this is not connected? Is this freeze specific to just some of folders or all of them?

Hi,
It does not appear to be any different if scanning or not.

The freezes can also occure when using the software. I have had it freeze a few times when merign people.
The only cure is to close tonfot and start up again.
I have noticed that when this happens and I check on task manager, one of the four running tonfotos process tates that it is not responding.

MelFish Hmm… that probably means program is actually busy. If you do heavy operations with database and then kill application at the same time, this may lead to database corruption, I would not recommend that. It is better to wait a bit.

By the way do you use CUDA version or not? Some users reported that they had freezes with CUDA Plugin installed, while it worked OK without it.

In any case, based on symptoms you described “It also takes about 5 - 10 seconds after any selection for the software to respond” - this pretty much sound to me as database access issue. Like it takes too much time to read data from it every time you do something. However I might be mistaken.

In any case it is close to impossible to understand the reasons without having direct access to your PC and avility to experiment with it. I would like to ask you to continue paying attention to anything that could help identify the reason for that problem.

By the way, was it always like that or started after some moment? You wrote above that that was when you connected another library over network, but you have at least two computers working with it, did it affect both computers the same way?

I have had the freezing problem since I installed the software and have noticed it on all of my PC’s.

I have left the software for hours withn no luck so forced to restart it.

I will keep monitoring as requested.

I am not using CUDA as not compatible with my hardware

Could I be using CUDA version by mistake? I cannot remmebner when I initially installed it. How can I tell?

MelFish If CUDA is being used, in About dialog you will see “(CUDA)” next to the version number. However, if your hardware is not supporting it, it will not be used anyway, even if you will install it.
