The app freezes for about 30 sec every 2 to 3 minutes. Any advice?

Tonymoon I’m afraid there is not enough information to give any meaningful advice. Does application still indexing your archive? Do you have lots of videos in your archive?

I have a similar thing happening. I’m still in the very very slow process of naming my people. I’ll click to expand so i can see the three people on screen (for example, doesn’t need to be exactly these numbers) and i’ll name the 3 people, either by typing or clicking. then the program freezes and shows a warning that the program is frozen, and if i click the message it’ll ask if i want to close the program or wait for it to start working again. eventually, usually just seconds, it’ll start working until i go to the next photo, and over and over, every single picture that i try to name the person, i get program freezes.

this is making the process take at least triple the time it should.

i’m wondering if i should delete the cuda as a thing to try, or is that going to mess up my serial count again?"

Quozlator CUDA is only used during initial indexing of photos. Based on your description, this has nothing to do with CUDA, but might be connected to writing data to your disk. When you name people, this information goes not only to the local application database, but also gets written to ini file next to the photos. Depending on your disk access speed, that might sometimes create delays. Do you have your photos locally or on some sort of shared or cloud drive?

well the vast majority of my photos are on either M.2, SSD, and one regular spinning platter drive.

but since you mention the cloud part, i will triple check that one of those cloud services didn’t sneak into my list, that would of course slow it down.
      thanks for the idea

I am also have a freezing problem.
It occurs when I select a number of suggested pictures in a persons file that are not recognized properly.
I select the misidentified suggested photos
I select “this is not xxxxxxxx”
the software will freeze and after a while my only option is to close Tonfotos and reopen it.
I am running windows. Both source and C drive are SSD. 150,000+ photos 3000+ names,

MelFish Thank you, that coincides with what I hear from other users and helps to narrow down the search ara for the bottleneck.

I too am getting a UI freezing problem, always in the People tab - never in the Folders or other tabs.

This is on Ubuntu Mate linux, and I launch tonfotos from a shell, so that I can see the output. Interestingly, when the UI freezes, the program is still running in the background, scanning folders - I can tell from the shell output. It’s just that the UI won’t redraw. Sometimes it recovers after a minute or so, sometimes it doesn’t and I have to kill it (control-C from the shell).

Starting it again, it often will start up frozen, unless I’m fast enough to click over on the Folders tab, in which case it might recover. But… once I head back to the People tab, it will eventually freeze up again - sometimes with people that have a lot of face photos.

markwend It looks like on Linux this problem is much more prominent than on Windows. Only few people report that they have it on Windows, even though it is more than 90% of all users, while on Linux issue frequency is disproportionally higher. My suggestion is that the reason is different, as on Windows it is only temporary freeze for few seconds, but on Linux UI might go completely unresponsive and only restart helps.

Unfortunately, we are still looking for the source of the problem. This is high priority for us.

I have freezing/hang issues. I run Windows 11 and Tonfotos has indexed all files.- As soon as I open the app (in folders) it just stops working. THere is nothing in the log files that looks weird…WHat could be wrong?

Oh - here is a report from Windows about the error.
