It looks like your aproach requires a lot of discipline in marking up photos and albums. I doubt many people do that. Well, technically you can achieve the same result in Tonfotos, if you to use Tag names instead of folder. That would allow for more fine grained markup, you could have tree and lake pictures in the same folder, for example. Or same photo can have Tree and Lake tag at the same time. And then use Tonfotos filter function to achieve same result, or even better - you can combine search criteria to narrow it down.
However, I undertsand, you have already adjusted your workflow specifically for Picasa, and it is really hard to retag you whole collection. However, we have plans for adding search by photo description like in Google Photos. Not righ now, but in the future. I think that this approach is more preferrable. It will help to address the same problem but would not require so much work for marking up your collection in advance.
