Disconnected external drive not recognized on reconnect

I had an issue where my Mac disconnected my external drive and I didn’t realize it. I opened Tonfotos and of course got the error that the photo directory was disconnected. I reconnected the drive, but Tonfotos doesn’t recognize the reconnection. I quit Tonfotos and restarted it and it still thinks the photo directory is not connected. I logged off and logged back on. Still would not connect. I rebooted the system. Still would not connect.

I went to Library Locations and next to the path it was prompting me to reconnect, which I did. It’s now working again. It would be great if Tonfotos were able to recover the connection when asked to display a photo again after the drive is reconnected and not need for the path to be reset to the same place again. Thanks.

Well that should have solve the situation right there. If drive is indeed connected to the system, but is just connected to other mount point, usually you just tell the program where to look for it now using this feature.

Can you please tell step by step what you did? And what exacty you mean by “it’s not working again”?

Once it detects a drive disconnect it doesn’t reset or try again. Mount point is the same as before. You have to go to locations and reconnect it there.

How exactly you come to that conlcusion? I still would appreciate very much step by step description, rather that intepretations.

Andrey Here’s what happened. macOS disconnected my external SSD. Of course when I started TonFotos and tried to view a file, I got the message that the photo directory was unavailable.

I reconnected the drive while TonFotos was running. Still showed photo directory unavailable.
I quit TonFotos and reopened it. Still photo directory unavailable.
I rebooted my system and opened TonFotos. Still photo directory unavailable.
I opened the menu for Library Locations and the path had a notice that it could not find the indicated path, so I clicked the link to find the folder on the drive again and reconnected.

Same drive as before. Same path. Same mount point. I hope that helps. If it happens again, I know how to fix it, but my question was why it happened and why it didn’t recognize the drive/mount point available again.

And this is very good question. It is supposed to work. I am afraid I only have information that you provided, so I can only guess what might go wrong in your case. If you are OK with some debugging, I can direct you until we find a reason.

RobA1701 Ok, as a start I will need to check your config file. Please send two versions:

1) When drive is conencted, but Tonfotos does not see it
2) When you reconnected it again using “Library locations” dialog and Tonfotos sees it.

Both times please first close the application to make sure config is saved. The file is located here: ~/Library/Application Support/tonfotos/config.json
