TonfotosSync mobile backup app

The primary source of images these days is undoubtedly the mobile phone. And conveniently and promptly saving photos to your archive is a crucial task. A new app, TonfotosSync, is now available for download. It can wirelessly send your photos to your Tonfotos archive. It works even when you’re away from your computer, such as on vacation or a business trip.

The app is free to download from Google Play and the App Store. It even works with the free version of Tonfotos.

This is the very first public release of this app. We’d love to hear your suggestions for further development on this forum. A huge thank you to all users who participated in our beta testing! Thank you for your patience and support!

Renaming folders and files

When organizing an archive, it’s often important to adjust folder and file names to make them more descriptive. Starting with this version, you don’t need to switch to File Explorer to do this; you can now easily do it within the Tonfotos interface. This feature is easily accessible via the folder and file context menu.

Clarification - does it copy the photo to my desktop and then tonfotos indexes it? Or does it leave the photo on the phone and just indexes that location?

smjacb App will physically send all photos to Tonfotos, and it will save it to the folder that you set up, and index it at that location.

Would it be possible to choose a year/month format for import folders? That’s the only thing missing!

First of all, please accept my apologies if I have posted this message incorrectly - I am new to this community. I’d be grateful for some help with using TonfotosSync please: I don’t want all the photos on my phone to be synced (I only wanted my WhatsApp photos to be synced), so I selected the option “Allow limited access” rather than “Allow all” in response to the prompt “Allow TonfotosSync to access photos and videos on this device?”. I then selected “Collections” at the top of the window, then “From your apps”, then “WhatsApp”. The first problem is that there doesn’t seem to be any way of selecting all the photos - I had to select them one by one! On pressing “Done” the next window asks “Allow TonfotosSync to access more photos and videos on this device?” - I selected “Don’t select more”. That took me back to the screen with the Photos and Collections choices at the top of the window, but there was now a banner at the bottom. showing how many photos I’d selected, and a “Done” button. On pressing “Done”, all that happened is that the screen was refreshed, and exactly the same prompt was displayed. This happened every time I pressed “Done” and there’s no way of proceeding from that point! In the end I had to force-close the app and uninstall it. I’m obviously doing something wrong, but what? I’d be very grateful for any help with this problem. Thank you.

Jurek Thank you for sharing. Tonfotos is not designed for this scenario. It was made for backing up your entire collection. I would suggest you to start a separate thread suggesting a new fature - backing up only WhatsApp or specific Collection from your library. What is most important is to share your opinion WHY this would be good addition to the app, so other users can relate and support this suggestion. If there will be enough support for the feature, we might consider adding it in future releases.

Andrey Thank you for your quick reply, Andrey. That just leaves the question of why the options to select Photos or Collections, and to Allow Limited Access are there, if only Allow All works. That’s what misled me into thinking that what I was trying to do was perfectly permissible, and it was just “user error” on my part! 😀 . Thanks for your help, and also for creating such an excellent app - I was lucky to come across it while trying to find an easy-to-use photo organiser for my elderly neighbour, who isn’t very computer literate, and TonFotos was perfect!

Jurek That question is part of the operating system. We cannot control what it does, we cannot prohibit it to offer partial access, unfotunately.
