First scan freezes at .mov files

Hello, I just installed Tonfontos 1.14.10 on my Mac Mini Sequoia 15.6 and scanned my photo folder from a Synology Beeststation NAS.

The scan runs until it encounters some .mov files from 2010, it then stops.
The status bar stays stuck like that :

When I remove the .mov file, the scan proceeds and stops at the next .mov file.

Any help ?

Hagop Please check log file. I assume there is some error processing those files that breaks indexing.

It seems that the app just stops scanning after the folder with the issue.
I’ve sent you the log by email.

It also shows “102k files indexed” but the interface only shows a few hundred thmbnails and a few folders instead oh hundreds…

Hagop Thank you for the logs. Actually, I can’t see any issue there. No errors. This file (162) does not seem to break processing, it goes on on the next file after it. At the beginning of the log your external drive was not connected, but when you connected it you browsed it without issues. Are you sure the problem is still there?

OK, I think my problem is actually not indexing but the fact that only one folder and its subfolders are shown in the interface.

Tonfotos shows only one folder (“vacances”) but there are many more.
When I try to add other folders it shows “This folder is already in Tonfotos library”. This is consistent with the number of photos indexed. They are simply not shown in the interface…

Are you sure there any photos in those other folders?

You can try “Rescan folder” in the context menu of the folder just in case.

Andrey Thank you. It seems the generation of the preview stops after a few hundred pictures (and always freezes on a video). I have to “rescan” the folder. A bit annoying, but will do for now.

Hagop Thank you for sending logs. I reviewed it and I cannot see any errors that would stop the processing. At some point program just does not go for the next file. This is very strange. The thing is, program is used by thousands of people and if something like that was a thing, we would already know for sure.

With that said, it is more probable that there is someting specific in your particular setup, or the way you are using the program.

Can you please tell a but more about our computer? I see in logs that is is ARM-based Mac, but that is it. Any antivirus software installed? Did you close the screen of the app while indexing? Did you minimize it?

I have a mac mini and the photos folder is on a NAS Beestation I can access in the “network” folder in the finder (mounted via SMB).
BitDefender installed.

Hagop Can you please check power settings of your Mac? Is Sleep mode ON? I think this might be the reason, it would totally explain what we see in logs.

Not sleep mode on but “Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off” is turned off. Maybe it’s that ?

In that case it is hardly the system sleep or not only it. If that happens again, can you please check if the UI is reponsive? Can you click around and see if everything works normally except scanning?

Based on the logs, at some point all activity was just stopped for very long time. And then resumed when you closed the app. That is very similar to system sleep, but probably there are several different situations, not just one.

Hi Andrey,
I’ve stopped trying to understand why this happens. Just wrote a shell script to stop/restart the app every 10 min and it finished scanning my folder last night.

I’ll just use it now and see if I switch to the paid version.
